Jerome Williams pitched seven strong innings, leading the Los Angeles Angels to a 7-1 win over the Baltimore Orioles to finish a weekend sweep Sunday afternoon in Anaheim. It was the first major league win for Williams since September 25, 2005, when he was a Cub. Peter Bourjos led the way for the Halos offensively with three hits, including a home run.
Since the start of the 2006 season, 993 different pitchers have won a game. None were named Jerome Williams, until today. Williams allowed one run in his seven innings, walking none while striking out six. With the game in hand, Rich Thompson pitched the final two innings in relief.
Bourjos homered for the third straight game, a two-run shot in the fourth inning that put the Angels up 6-0. Bourjos also had an RBI single in the second inning. Mike Trout had two singles and scored twice for the Angels. Torii Hunter went 0-for-5 to snap his season-high hitting streak at 18 games.
The Angels are off Monday, but host the White Sox Tuesday and Wednesday in Anaheim.
