Angels Look To Win Series With Dan Haren On The Mound Facing Blue Jays

The Los Angeles Angels would like to forget about yesterday's  11-2 blowout loss to the Toronto Blue Jays in which Jered Weaver was shelled for eight runs in 4.2 innings and also allowing three home runs to Jays hitters.

They turn to Dan Haren (12-6), who has been more than solid in his last 10 starts with a 8-2 record, 2.84 ERA, 5.40 SO/BB ratio, and limiting opponent's to a .216 batting average.

Haren has not started at Rogers Center since 2007 when he was with the Oakland A's, but in his career against the Jays at Rogers Center, he is 3-0 in four starts there with a 7.20 ERA, so his team had given him some major run support.  He did face the Jays earlier on April 9 where he pitched a scoreless inning out of relief in the bull pen striking out one.

The Jays will counter with Brett Cecil (4-5), who will try to rebound from his last start against the Angels on April 9 where he went five innings, allowing 10 hits (including a home run), five earned runs, and three strike outs.  The lefty has lost his last two games, but had pitched a strong game in each as he allowed only three earned runs in each start and going six and seven innings respecectively.

Haren has only allowed 12 home runs in 176.1 innings pitched this season, but the Jays, who lead the American League with home runs at home with 77, would like bomb Haren as they did with Weaver yesterday.

Angels are looking to tighten their 3-game deficit with the Texas Rangers, who are facing the Oakland A's later today, to keep the AL West standings close as the MLB season enters the final end of the season.
