Angels Lose Vernon Wells, Blasted By White Sox, 8-0

The White Sox blasted four doubles and three home runs, on their way to a 8-0 win over the Angels, in the opening game of a three-game series at Angel Stadium of Anaheim. Carlos Quentin led the way for Chicago, with two doubles and a home run, knocking in five runs. Edwin Jackson pitched seven scoreless innings, striking out five for his third win of the season.

Ervin Santana allowed five runs and 11 baserunners in his six innings of work, taking the loss to fall to 1-4 on the season. However, the Angels suffered another loss, as left fielder Vernon Wells left the game in the fourth inning with a right groin strain. After the game, Wells was placed on the 15-day disabled list, per Mike DiGiovanna of the Los Angeles Times.

Alexi Amarista, who started the game at second base, moved to left in place of Wells, with Howie Kendrick entering the game at second base.

The Angels managed just six hits and two walks against three White Sox pitchers. Joel Pineiro and John Danks face off Tuesday night in the second game of the series. Monday night was the third straight win for the White Sox.

Angels Continue Homestand Against White Sox

The Angels continue their homestand with a three-game series with the Chicago, as Ervin Santana starts the season opener Monday night against Edwin Jackson of the White Sox. The Angels took two of three games from the first-place Cleveland Indians and have won four of their last five contests. The Angels have a two-game lead on Texas for first place in the American League West.

Santana is 1-3 with a 4.43 ERA this season. Though he is 0-2 in three home starts, he has pitched at least seven innings in all three starts in Anaheim. Jackson is 2-4 with a 4.98 ERA this season, though he is coming off his best start of the season. Jackson allowed one run in eight innings last Tuesday to the Twins, but took the loss because he was opposed by Francisco Liriano, who threw a no-hitter.

The Angels' win over Cleveland on Sunday was the 1,000th win for Mike Scioscia in Anaheim. Chicago has won two straight games, but had lost 18 of 22 games before that mini winning streak. The Angels swept three games in Chicago from April 15-17. Tonight's 7:05 p.m. PDT game will be televised by KCOP.
