The Angels look to snap a three-game losing streak as they head to Seattle Wednesday night to face the Mariners in the first of a two-game, night/day set at Safeco Field. After a pair of rain-delayed losses in Oakland -- one in heartbreaking comeback fashion, the other in a blowout -- the Angels now find themselves in third place, though just a half-game behind the A's and Rangers in the tightly-packed American League West. The Angels have lost five of their last six games.
Jered Weaver gets the start for the Angels tonight in Seattle, looking for his seventh win of the season. Weaver began the year on fire, and was 6-0 with a 0.99 ERA by the end of April, but is 0-3 with a 5.50 ERA in three starts in May. Jason Vargas gets the start for the Mariners.
Center fielder Franklin Gutierrez, who has been on the disabled list since spring training with stomach gastritis, will be activated by Seattle before tonight's game, and will start in center. This is the first matchup between these two teams this season. The Angels won 15 of 19 games against the Mariners in 2010, including 7-2 in Seattle. The Angels are 5-6 against the AL West this season.

Angels Shutout For Second Day In A Row, 3-0 In Seattle
Seattle, WA (Sports Network) - Justin Vargas pitched seven shutout frames, as Seattle downed the Angels, 3-0, in the first contest of a brief two-game set at Safeco Field.
Vargas (3-2) scattered four hits, struck out nine and walked two, extending his scoreless-innings streak to 16 frames. The southpaw has given up just one earned run over his last 23 2/3 innings. Jack Cust finished 2-for-4 with two runs batted in for the Mariners, who have won two of three overall.
Jered Weaver (6-4) gave up three runs on seven hits with four strikeouts and one walk over six innings, losing his fourth straight. He has surrendered 14 earned runs over 24 innings during the stretch. Bobby Abreu had two hits in the loss, the Angels' fourth in a row.
Seattle jumped to an early 1-0 lead in the first as Chone Figgins doubled to left with one out, moved to third when Justin Smoak reached on Mark Trumbo's fielding error and scored on Cust's single to right. Franklin Gutierrez, in his first game of the season, then grounded into an inning-ending double play.
Two more runners crossed home in the third as Ichiro Suzuki singled, moved to second on a groundout and cruised home on Smoak's double that one-hopped the wall in right. Cust's ensuing single plated the first baseman for a three-run edge.
