Jepsen Can't Hold Lead In Eighth, Angels Lose To Royals 5-4

The Los Angeles Angels took  a lead into the eighth inning today in Kansas City, but the Royals rallied for two runs to take the lead and grab a 5-4 win in the third game of a four-game series at Kauffman Stadium. Kansas City had four singles off Kevin Jepsen in the bottom of the eighth inning, the final knock a line drive to center field by Chris Getz to drive home the go-ahead run. Joakim Soria pitched a 1-2-3 ninth inning for his first save of the season.

The Angels got their third quality start in as many days, as Ervin Santana allowed three runs in his 6 2/3 innings, walking two and striking out six batters. Torii Hunter opened the scoring for the Angels with a fourth-inning home run off Royals' starter Kyle Davies, the second home run of the season for the Angels' right fielder. Eight of the nine starters for the Angels got at least one base hit. Centerfielder Peter Bourjos was 0-for-2, but did have a base on balls.

The Angels try to salvage a split on Sunday in Kansas City, with Scott Kazmir facing the well-traveled Bruce Chen, who appears to have found a home with the Royals.
