Original Story

Angels Spring Training: Haren, Trumbo, Wood Stand Out In Loss To Cubs

On a day the Angels played in, and lost, a game that featured 27 runs, the main story was pitching. Starter Dan Haren, who figures to slot behind Jered Weaver as the No. 2 pitcher in the starting rotation, pitched three scoreless innings in his second outing of the spring. The Angels built a 9-0 lead in a game they would eventually lose to the Cubs, 14-13.

Haren struck out three and walked only one in his outing, and didn't allow a hit. Bill Plunkett of the Orange County Register captured the humorous scene in the Angels' clubhouse shortly after Haren was removed from the game:

Reporters to #Angels Haren: Is that the 1st time you ever been taken out of a game with a no-hitter going?

Haren: "Probably the longest I've ever had a no-hitter going." Ah, spring training humor.

Michael Kohn also pitched a scoreless inning for the Angels, but Fernando Rodney gave up two runs on five hits in his one inning, without striking out a batter. First baseman Mark Trumbo was the star of the day at the plate for the Angels, going 4-for-4 with a double and a home run. Brandon Wood also had a double and a home run, and went 2-for-5.

The Angels return home to Tempe Diablo Stadium Tuesday to face the Rangers. Ervin Santana will start for the Angels, with Eric Hurley getting the call for Texas. Also slated to pitch tomorrow for the Angels are Trevor Bell, Garrett Richards, and Scott Downs. Tomorrow's 12:05 p.m. PST game will be televised by Fox Sports West.
