C.J. Wilson Takes Hometown Discount To Join Angels

The Miami Marlins were ready to throw giant stacks of cash at both C.J. Wilson and Albert Pujols this offseason, and made contract offers that did just that. Nevertheless, Wilson eventually decided to take a hometown discount and return to Southern California to play with the Angels, but the question is why?

Wilson explained himself a bit to the Palm Beach Post

"The Marlins were such a strong offer I might not have ended up in Anaheim unless things came together last night the way they did."

"If it was about the money, I'd be a Florida Marlin."

I think you meant Miami Marlins but we'll let it slide.

Justin Bopp over at MLB Daily Dish explains how Wilson could have easily gotten $25 million more from Miami then he could have in Anaheim, and stayed up until 5:30 this morning weighing his options before finally making his decision.

Either way it seems like both sides are happy about the deal, the only one's who aren't are likely the Miami Marlins.
