Albert Pujols Contract Breakdown With Los Angeles Angels

More and more details of the Albert Pujols contract with the Los Angeles Angels are emerging. The contract will play the first baseman $240 million over the next 10 years, per Mike DiGiovanna of the Los Angeles Times, plus another $10 million for a 10-year personal services contract once his playing days are over. DiGiovanna has the year-by-year breakdown:

  • 2012: $12 million
  • 2013: $16 million
  • 2014: $23 million
  • 2015: $24 million
  • 2016: $25 million
  • 2017: $26 million
  • 2018: $27 million
  • 2019: $28 million
  • 2020: $29 million
  • 2021: $30 million

The Angels have $78 million in guaranteed money for 2013 committed to five players (Pujols, Vernon Wells, Jered Weaver, C.J. Wilson, and Scott Downs), which includes option buyouts for catcher Chris Iannetta and pitchers Dan Haren and Ervin Santana. If those three options are exercised the Angels will have $103.5 million committed to eight players in 2013.

The Angels will owe Pujols, Wilson, Weaver, and Wells a combined $77 million in 2014.
