New Angels GM Jerry Dipoto's Contract Is Five Years

The Los Angeles Angels on Saturday made official their hiring of Jerry Dipoto as the 11th general manager in franchise history. Dipoto, 43, signed a five-year contract, and will oversee all aspects of baseball operations for the Halos.

"At the outset of this process, we felt it was important to find an individual who can evaluate talent, manage our entire baseball operations system, incorporate analytical thinking and possesses solid communication skills," said owner Arte Moreno. "I believe with the hiring of Jerry we have done just that."

Dipoto was with the Arizona Diamondbacks for the last six years as the head of scouting and player development, and was also interim general manager for three months in 2010. During his brief tenure as GM, he traded Dan Haren to the Angels.

"What a thrill this is. I am excited and honored to be part of one of the premier franchises in baseball. The club's success in the last 10 years isn't just notable, it has catapulted the Angels into one of the top organizations in baseball," Dipoto said. "We want to continue the success here with an increased focus on scouting and player development. We will always have championship expectations."

The Angels will hold a press conference at noon on Saturday to formally introduce Dipoto.
