The LA Galaxy may no longer be on a winning streak, but they'll look to get the fireworks back against the Philadelphia Union tonight at The Home Depot Center. The Galaxy's three match winning streak, their longest of the season, came to an end on Saturday with another late loss to San Jose. The Quakes have twice this season come back from two goals down to defeat the Galaxy.
David Beckham scored his third goal of the season on Saturday, his second from a direct free kick. Of his thirteen MLS goals in his six seasons in the league, five have come directly from free kicks. Beckham was also able to score a goal directly from a corner kick last year.
While the Galaxy struggles in the back continue, the offense has come alive as late. The scoring surge has them back in playoff contention after some where beginning to write the season off. The Galaxy shooting stars have scored nine goals in their last three matches, winning two of them. LA only recorded fifteen goals in their first thirteen matches.
The team might be getting some defensive help tonight. Omar Gonzalez has been activated off the disabled list, and is now available for selection. Gonzalez injured his left ACL while on loan in Germany back in January.
The good news for the Galaxy is that the Union have never notched a victory over LA. In their second meeting last year, the Union managed a 1-1 draw at PCL Park. Unfortunately, this has not been a good year for streaks in LA, with both Chivas and New England reversing trends against the Galaxy this year.
