2012 MLS Standings: Galaxy And Chivas Both Continue To Climb

Both the LA Galaxy and Chivas USA began to climb out of the Western Conference cellar this weekend, with the Portland Timbers getting an LA sweep over the last two weeks. Two weeks ago, Chivas USA went up to Portland and defeated the Timbers at Jeld-Wen Field on a goal in the last ten minutes. This weekend in Los Angeles, Portland again gave up a goal in the 80+ portion of the match to come away with no points again.

For the Galaxy, the three points against Portland were their first in three matches, giving them six points on the year and past Portland into second to last. Chivas USA continued to build off their victory over Portland, defeating MLS' worst team Toronto FC over the weekend in Toronto. The Goats moved into a fifth place tie with Colorado with the three points, moving past Vancouver.

Vancouver has a tough one this week, surrendering their game in hand hosting a Wednesday match against Sporting Kansas City. They then host FC Dallas, while SKC heads down to Portland. It's a good weekend for both Los Angeles teams to pick up some ground.

Chivas hosts a struggling Philadelphia Union squad at The Home Depot Center, which is a winnable match for them. The Galaxy head off to Colorado, whom they can catch in the standings with a victory. After a month of March that was full of wailing and gnashing of teeth, it's looking like the LA clubs are poised to make a comeback.
