CARSON, Calif -- Chivas USA host Sporting Kansas City Sunday at The Home Depot Center, fresh off their first victory of the 2012 MLS season. Sporting KC currently sit atop the Eastern Conference with nine points. This is Chivas' second match of the year at the HDC against an Eastern Conference opponent, losing to the Houston Dynamo in their home opener.
Last weekend, Kansas City became the 15th team in MLS history to begin the season 3-0-0. Only one such team has then gone on to miss the MLS playoffs. That team? The Kansas City Wizards in 2006. The team finished with just 38 points, and that season saw the sacking of Bob Gansler who had been coach since 1999 and known colloquially as Bunker Bob.
KC's Graham Zusi had a pair of assists in their 2-1 victory over FC Dallas. He's now in the lead in the MLS assist column, with four assists on the year and at least one assists in each match so far this season. The match was Zusi's second career two assist match, his first coming last 10th of September vs. Houston.
For the Goats in their first win of 2012, they got their first goal of the season from rookie Casey Townsend after 252 minutes of play. The 5th pick in this last MLS SuperDraft netted the matches only goal for the win over Real Salt Lake at Rio Tinto Stadium.
SKC have won in their last two visits to The Home Depot Center to face the red-and-white, including a 3-2 victory last season.
