Sammy Yeager and Kwame Vaughn filled up the stat sheet, but their efforts weren't enough for the Titans to overcome Nevada's depth at the Basketball Travelers Tournament on Friday.
Deonte Burton made two free throws with one second left to ice the game for the Nevada Wolf Pack as they defeated the Cal State Fullerton Titans, 80-77, at the Lawlor Events Center in Reno, Nev. on Friday night at the Basketball Travelers Tournament.
Kwame Vaughn scored a game-high 20 points and added six rebounds, two assists and two steals for the Titans. Sammy Yeager added 19 points to go along with seven rebounds and five assists in the losing effort. Vaughn, a 6 ft. 3 senior guard from Oakland, was 2-for-5 from the three-point line. The Titans shot 42 percent from deep and were an impressive 18-of-22 from the free throw line, but it wasn't enough.
In the balanced game, it turned out to be the Wolf Pack's depth that would cost the Titans in the long run as Nevada's reserves outscored Fullerton's by a margin of 22-19. Nevada overcame poor shooting from the arc, going 6 of 23, and still managed to outlast the Titans.
