The Machester Monarchs, the Los Angeles Kings' AHL affiliate, begin their season this weekend with a East coast road trip.

With the Los Angeles Kings on the proverbial sideline as the NHL lockout continues to drag out, the Manchester Monarchs, the Kings' AHL affiliate, are ready to start their season this weekend with a pair of matchups.

The Monarchs enter the regular season with three exhibition wins in their pocket, including a 7-1 romp of their Atlantic Division rival Portland Pirates on Monday. Manchester will travel to Providence to take on the Bruins for their first regular season game on Friday, than a meeting with the Albany Devils on Saturday. Their home opener will be next Friday, Oct. 19 with another meeting with the Providence Bruins.

Below is the Monarch's schedule for the upcoming week. You can check out their complete schedule here.

The UCLA Bruins are looking to take care of business against the Utah Utes this weekend.

As the UCLA Bruins prepare for their matchup against the Utah Utes this weekend, oddsmakers are predicting a sizable Bruins victory, as betting lines have grown larger over the course of the week.

The Bruins began the week as six point favorites, though that has moved to around nine points for most online betting sites, with 5Dimes and Bet Online using a 9.5 point spread for this matchup. As for the over/under, that began the week at 53.5 points, but has shrunk to around 51.5 this week.

The total has gone under in 10 of the Bruins' last 15 games, including eight of their last 11 games at home. UCLA is also 6-1 in their last seven games at home. As for Utah, they are 2-4 against the spread in their last six games on the road.

Kickoff is set for noon PT at the Rose Bowl on Saturday, with coverage on the FOX Network.

USC still trails Arizona State after the Sun Devils big win on Thursday night.

After the Arizona State Sun Devils used a big second half to top the Colorado Buffaloes by the score of 51-17 Thursday night, the USC Trojans remained in second place in the Pac-12 South standings heading into their matchup with the Washington Huskies at CentruyLink Field in Seattle on Saturday.

Angels prospect Buddy Boshers blew the save for the Scottsdale Scorpions to lead the Salt River Rafters to the 6-5 victory.

The Arizona Fall League is under way as the Scottsdale Scorpions took on the Salt River Rafters Thursday night, with a number of Los Angeles Angels seeing action for the Scorpions. Yet despite a late rally, Angels reliever Buddy Boshers would blow the save in the bottom of the ninth leading to a 6-5 loss.

Boshers faced five batters in the ninth inning, giving up a homer to Nationals prospect Brian Goodwin to tie the game. He then allowed back-to-back singles and a walk to Anthony Rendon to load the bases. The White Sox's Andy Wilkins ended the game with a single for his second RBI of the game.

Fellow Anaheim reliever Ryan Chaffee tossed 1/3 of an inning of relief, giving up three hits one run, one walk and one strikeout. Travis Witherspoon went 0-for-4 with two strikeouts.

The Scorpions and Rafters lock horns once again on Friday with first pitch scheduled for 5:35 p.m. PT.

Is J.T. Terrell the man the Trojans have been waiting for?

As the USC Trojans men's basketball team gets ready for their upcoming season, one of their most important players to their success could be Junior transfer JT Terrell, according to the Daily Trojan.

Terrell cracked CBS Sports' top 100 college basketball players at No. 98, and brings a strong work ethic and athleticism to an already talented Trojans squad. Nevertheless, the Daily Trojans' Alex Schultz sees two reasons why Terrell could be a big factor this season:

One, USC had its worst-ever season in terms of win-loss percentage in 2011-12. Again, poor seasons are not out of the norm for the men's team. But last year was truly a train wreck, which has managed to derail expectations for this roster to monumentally low levels among casual hoops fans.

And second of all, and perhaps most importantly, Terrell is a transfer student who most recently played at the junior college level and very few onlookers know what to expect from the virtually unknown guard, who began his college career at Wake Forest.

The Trojans begin their season on Friday, Nov. 9 from the Galen Center against the Coppin State Eagles.

The Los Angeles Dodgers will be enhancing the player and fan's experience at Dodger Stadium with a number of upgrades this offseason.

The Los Angeles Dodgers are planning a number of improvements to the 60-year old Dodger Stadium this offseason, including upgrades to both home and visitors clubhouses, new indoor batting cages for both home and away teams, and upgrades to the sound and video systems throughout the stadium.

There will also be a number of changes in fan areas as well as team CEO Stan Kasten describes some of the improvements that will happen this winter:

"Out in the seating bowl, we'll have more bars, more restaurants, more hanging out areas that you see in other stadiums."

"We have an aggressive plan, and frankly you would say that it can't get done in the 24 Weeks we have until opening day, especially given the other uses this stadium still has. but we've got Janet [Smith] on the job, and I'm predicting she does get it done by Opening Day...we transformed Olympic Stadium into Turner Field In seven months, and that was a lot of demolition and a lot of construction, so I think we'll get this done."

Janet is Janet Marie Smith, Dodgers Senior VP of Planning and Development. She was hired on Aug. 6 to oversee these upgrades and has worked with Kasten for years. Smith's had the same position with the Baltimore Orioles before coming over to the Dodgers.

Dodgers GM Ned Colletti discusses the team's offseason plans with their pitching staff.

The Los Angeles Dodgers have missed the playoffs for the third straight year, leaving them to figure out ways to improve during the offseason to give it another run in 2013. Some of those improvements will likely be to their pitching staff, according to Dodgers general manager Ned Colletti.

With regard to the starting rotation, Colletti wants to see how some of their starters come around this offseason, but also notes that they can't afford to wait and see what happens:

"Pitching, you can never have enough. Ted Lilly is coming off surgery. Chad Billingsley is still in an area where we will wait and see in the next few weeks. I would say starting pitching is a need. We don't know what we're going to get from players that are recuperating now or hopefully avoiding surgery. We can't wait until we find out."

As for the bullpen, Los Angeles has a trio of free agents that could go elsewhere in Brandon League, Jamey Wright and Randy Choate. Colletti would "like to keep together as many as possible," though these three could see a lot of action this offseason from other clubs.

The Dodgers got some good news on Thursday as Clayton Kershaw won't be having offseason surgery on his ailing hip.

Los Angeles Dodgers starting pitcher Clayton Kershaw will not need have offseason surgery on his right hip impingement, instead turning to rehabilitation and medication to alleviate the problems in time for spring training.

Dodgers general manager Ned Colletti noted that after doing their due dilligence, that surgery was not the best option for the Cy Young winner:

"We talked to the top three hip specialists in the country. We kept gathering information. As the medication started to take over he just started to get better and better."

Colletti also said he is confident in the reports he has gotten that the injury won't be an issue moving forward for Kershaw:

"Things can always come back, but the way it's been described to me there is a really good chance (the hip impingement) won't come back. If it was a for sure thing that it would come back he'd be having surgery today."

Kershaw is just one of a litany of injured Dodgers as Matt Kemp (arthroscopic shoulder surgery) and Kenley Jansen (cardiac ablation surgery) are each expected to go under the knife soon, while Jerry Hairston Jr. (hip) and Scott Elbert (elbow) each recently had procedures done. Carl Crawford is still rehabbing from his August Tommy John surgery as well.

Kershaw finished the season with a 14-9 record, 2.53 ERA and a 1.02 WHIP in 33 starts for Los Angeles, making his case for another Cy Young award this season.

The Los Angeles Angels will be hanging on to Chris Iannetta through the 2015 season after he signed a three-year contract extension on Friday.

The Los Angeles Angels and catcher Chris Iannetta have come to terms on a new three-year contract extension that will keep him with the Halos thorough the 2015 season. The contract is valued at $15.5 million, per Alden Gonzalez of MLB.com.

the 29-year old Iannetta was acquired from the Colorado Rockies in exchange for RHP Tyler Chatwood during 2011 off-season. He batted .240 (53/221) with nine home runs and 26 RBI in 79 games this season for Los Angeles, missing 67 games after going on the disabled list with a fractured right wrist. He suffered the injury after being hit by a pitch May 2 against the Minnesota Twins, a game remembered for Jered Weaver's no-hitter.

Iannetta had a $5 million mutual option for 2013 before this contract extension.

The Providence, R.I. native was selected by the Rockies in the fourth round of the 2004 Draft out of the University of North Carolina. Iannetta has batted .236 (389/1650) with 78 doubles, 72 home runs, 262 RBI and a .354 on-base percentage in his seven-year career in the majors.
