Ducks Vs. Red Wings: Anaheim Blasted In Road Trip Finale 5-0 In Detroit

The Anaheim Ducks got blasted by the Detroit Red Wings 5-0 on Saturday night in the finale of a seven-game road trip for Anaheim. The Ducks have lost five straight contests and eight of their last nine games. Anaheim picked up just five points on their seven-game trip, finishing 1-3-3.

Nicklas Lidstrom scored two goals and had an assist for Detroit, who snapped a six-game losing streak of their own with the win. Johan Franzen had a goal and two assists for the Red Wings. Ducks' goaltender Jonas Hiller saved a season-high 45 shots, but let in five goals and was pulled with just under 10 minutes remaining.

The frustration boiled over for the Ducks when the normally mild-mannered Teemu Selanne was given a game misconduct less than a minute into the final period for unsportsmanlike conduct.

Center Peter Holland made his NHL debut for the Ducks on Saturday night. Holland, who turns 21 in January, was recalled from the Syracuse Crunch of the American Hockey League earlier on Saturday. Holland, who scored six goals and five assists in 12 games with Syracuse, and had his parents fly to Detroit from Toronto to watch his NHL debut.

The next game for the Ducks is Wednesday against the Nashville Predators at Honda Center.

Ducks Vs. Red Wings: Anaheim Has Plenty Of Home Cooking Ahead

The Anaheim Ducks have had their struggles of late, at 1-4-3 in their last eight games, but good news is around the corner. The Ducks end their seven-game road trip Saturday night against the Detroit Red Wings at Joe Louis Arena, facing a team who is slumping worse than them with six straight defeats.

The good news for the Ducks is that they return home after the game in Detroit, and then will be in their own beds for 31 of the next 32 nights. Here is the Ducks' upcoming schedule:

  • Nov. 9: vs. Nashville
  • Nov. 11: vs. Vancouver
  • Nov. 13: vs. Minnesota
  • Nov. 16: at Los Angeles
  • Nov. 17: vs. Los Angeles
  • Nov. 20: vs. Detroit
  • Nov. 23: at Phoenix (only day out of southern California during this stretch)
  • Nov. 25: vs. Chicago
  • Nov. 27: vs. Toronto
  • Nov. 30: vs. Montreal
  • Dec. 2: vs. Philadelphia
  • Dec. 4: vs. Minnesota
  • Dec. 6: vs. Los Angeles

That stretch includes just one back-to-back pair of games, a home and home with the Los Angeles Kings. It's as good a time as any for the Ducks to right their ship with some home cooking.

Saturday's 4:00 p.m. PDT game will be televised by Fox Sports West. For more Ducks news and analysis, be sure to read Anaheim Calling.
