Ducks Vs. Rangers: Anaheim Wins Shootout With New York

Stay connected for news and updates

For the second night in a row, the New York Rangers had to go to overtime. For the second night in a row, a team from the greater Los Angeles area prevailed, this time as the Anaheim Ducks take it all the way to a shootout to decide the victor. None of the three shooters initially chosen for the two sides were able to score, but Anaheim’s Bobby Ryan finally snuck one past Henrik Lundqvist in the fourth round.

The Swedish goalie Lundqvist had the Stockholm crowd on his side, but unfortunately he didn’t have the luck. Both he and Jonas Hiller made great saves in the shootout as they had all game, withstanding 43 shots on goal combined.

The Rangers were able to tie it up on a Brad Richards wrist shot with 17:45 left to go in the third period. McDonagh was credited with an assist on the play. This drew the Rangers even after the first period goal by Anaheim’s Andrew Cogliano.
