Ducks Get Drilled By Coyotes, 6-2

Glendale, AZ (Sports Network) - Ray Whitney tallied two goals and an assist as Phoenix continued its hot streak with a 6-2 rout of Anaheim. Lee Stempniak added a goal and two assists while Sami Lepisto notched a goal and an assist for the Coyotes, who have won four straight and have recorded a point in eight straight games. Taylor Pyatt and Adrian Aucoin also lit the lamp for the victors and Ilya Bryzgalov made 26 saves.

Corey Perry finished with a goal and an assist as the Ducks had a three-game winning streak stymied. Matt Beleskey potted a goal in the loss and Jonas Hiller surrendered four goals on 26 shots. Curtis McElhinney came into the third period for Anaheim and made just six saves on eight shots. Phoenix drew first blood 7:35 into the game when Radim Vrbata raced down the right boards with the puck. He hit a streaking Whitney in the slot where his one-timer beat Hiller's stabbing glove.

Anaheim found the equalizer nearing the midway point of the first on Beleskey's low slapper that burned Bryzgalov. The Coyotes tallied three goals in the second period to take a commanding 4-1 lead heading into the final frame. Just 31 seconds into the second period, Aucoin found the back of the net as Phoenix took a 2-1 edge. He got the goal after a loose puck trickled to the top of the right circle, the defenseman then wound up and ripped a shot that sailed past the Duck's netminder.

Pyatt scored his 12th goal of the season with a tip in 12 1/2 minutes into the period and Lepisto ended the three-goal frame with a wrister. McElhinney started the third period but that didn't help as the Coyotes lead was expanded, 5-1, seven minutes into the third on Whitney's second goal of the contest. The Ducks added a late goal after Lubomir Visnovsky kept the puck alive in the offensive zone by gloving a dump pass and shoveling it over to Perry, who ripped a shot from the right circle.

Stempniak made up the final score after slapping a one-timer from a cross ice pass from Oliver Ekman-Larsson with 4:01 left in regulation. Teemu Selanne entered the game sitting on 1,299 career NHL points. He was unable to reach the 1,300 milestone against Phoenix...Vrbata ended with two assists...Despite the high scoring performance by the Coyotes, they blanked on five power-play chances.
