Angels Vs. Mariners Final Score: Jered Weaver Can't Complete Sweep In 2-1 Loss

The Los Angeles Angels were unable to complete a three-game sweep of the Seattle Mariners on Sunday. Whereas on Saturday the Halos were able to best Mariners ace Felix Hernandez, the best Los Angeles pitcher was not as lucky in Sunday's 2-1 loss.

For Angels ace Jered Weaver, Jesus Montero continued to be a very unlikely nemesis. Montero launched a solo home run in the fourth inning to give the Mariners a 1-0 lead. With the shot, Montero improves his all-time record against Weaver to 4-for-8, with all four hits being home runs.

In the fifth inning, Carlos Peguero hit a second solo home run off of Weaver that proved to be the difference in the game. Howie Kendrick drove in the only Angels run in the top of the ninth inning with a two-out RBI single.

Angels Vs. Mariners Game Preview: Halos Go For 2nd Straight Sweep

The red-hot Los Angeles Angels will look to secure their second straight series sweep as they take on the Seattle Mariners on Sunday, after picking up a 5-2 win over Felix Hernandez on Saturday.

The Angels have won five consecutive games and will put the ball in the right hand of ace Jered Weaver to try to finish off the Mariners and keep the momentum going.

Weaver is the right man for the job as the AL Cy Young Award candidate is 16-3 with a 2.85 ERA and is looking to rebound from his last start against the Boston Red Sox, where he gave up four earned runs in seven innings.

Weaver will face the Mariners' Hisashi Iwakuma, who is 5-3 with a 3.40 ERA. Iwakuma is 3-0 with a 1.40 ERA in his last four starts, including a win against the Angels.

Angels Vs. Mariners Final Score: Halos Outfox Felix In 5-2 Win

The Los Angeles Angels picked up a win on Saturday afternoon in what looked to be the toughest matchup of the three-game series. The 5-2 win secured the series victory and stretched the Halos' winning streak to five games.

Ervin Santana was able to hold on just long enough for some run support that put him in line for the win over the Seattle ace, Felix Hernandez.

Albert Pujols hit an RBI double in the first inning to give the Angels an early 1-0 lead. In the bottom of the third, Trayvon Robinson tied things up for Seattle with a solo home run to deep right center field. A few batters later, Franklin Gutierrez drove in a go-ahead run with an RBI double down the left field line to make it 2-1 Mariners.

The Angels finally broke through against Hernandez in the top of the eighth inning. Pujols reached on a fielding error that also allowed Mike Trout to score to tie the game and left runners on second and third with no outs. Mark Trumbo followed up with a single that drove in both runners to make it 4-2 Angels and knocked Hernandez out of the game. Howie Kendrick drove in Trumbo with a double for a big insurance run.

The Angels will try for the sweep at Safeco Field on Sunday.

Angels Vs. Mariners Game Preview: Halos Turn To Dan Haren For 4th Straight Win

Fresh off their sweep of the Red Sox, the Los Angeles Angels are looking to keep their winning ways intact as they head north to face the Seattle Mariners at Safeco Field.

Dan Haren (8-10, 4.82 ERA) will take the bump for L.A., looking to end the month on a high note. He currently is 0-2 with a 6.27 ERA in four starts in August, including a 7-4 loss to Seattle on Aug. 11. He took a no decision in his last outing after 5.2 innings of two run ball against the Tigers. He's 5-2 with a 1.99 ERA in 10 games at Safeco.

Seattle will send out veteran Kevin Millwood (4-11, 4.28) on Friday. Despite posting a 0-3 record with a 5.76 ERA in his past three starts, Millwood has won his last two against the Angels, sporting a 1.06 ERA in those outings. He hasn't faced them since August of 2010 though.

Despite sitting out against Detroit with a calf strain, Albert Pujols hasn't seemed to be slowing down after posting a .405 batting average with five homers and 14 RBIs in his last 11 games, while going 5 for 11with four RBI in a three-game sweep of Boston.

First pitch is set 7:10 p.m. PT with coverage on Fox Sports West and KLLA 830 AM.
