2012 U.S. Open Scores: Rain Suspends Andy Roddick's Match

Rain marred the ninth day at the U.S. Open as Andy Roddick and Juan Martin Del Porto's match sits tied at 6-6 in the first set with play suspended due to rain.

The current forecast calls for periods of rain over the next one to two hours as a decision is made whether to resume play, according to the U.S. Open's Twitter handle.

The match had been evenly matched, with Roddick winning 36 total points and Del Porto winning 35. Roddick's serve has been as advertised, topping out at 135 mph as he registered five aces.

The other instance of action on the men's side saw fourth-seeded David Ferrer advance to the quarterfinals with a victory over No. 13 Richard Gasquet, 7-5, 7-6 (2), 6-4. Ferrer had to wait out an hour-long rain delay during his match, but in winning joined Rafael Nadal as the second Spanish player to make the quarterfinals in all four Grand Slams in one year.

Top-seeded Victoria Azarenka needed three sets to defeat Samantha Stosur of Austria to advance to the women's singles semifinals. Azarenka seemed to be well on her way to an easy win, winning the first set 6-1. But Stosur came back to take the second set 6-4. Azarenka closed out a close third set 7-6 to barely squeak out a win.

The second-seeded Italian doubles team of Sara Errani and Roberta Vinci topped Julia Goerges of Germany and Kveta Peschike of Czech Republic in two sets, 6-2, 7-6 (2), to advance to the semifinals.
