2012 FedEx Cup Standings: Tiger Woods Finishes In Third Behind Champion Brandt Snedeker

Tiger Woods could not pull off a comeback victory at the Tour Championship Sunday, finishing tied for eighth in the tournament and third overall in the final FedEx Cup standings.

Woods had a shot at his third FedEx Cup if he could just pull off the victory this past weekend, but he blew his chance pretty quickly Sunday, playing four-over on his first six holes. With a two-over final round, Woods finished nine strokes shy of what was necessary for the $10 million FedEx Cup pot.

Woods concludes 2012 winning three times in 19 starts with seven top five finishes along the way.

Rory McIlory was the only player to finish between Snedeker and Woods. Nick Watney and Phil Mickelson rounded out the top five.

Fellow California natives Rickie Fowler and Hunter Mahan finished 28th and 19th place, respectively, in the final FedEx Cup standings.

2012 Tour Championship Purse: Tiger Woods Wins $248K

After four tough rounds at the 2012 Tour Championship, the purse has been announced for every golfer who competed this weekend. Brandt Snedeker was the big winner on Sunday, and for his efforts he will take home $1.44 million. Not a bad showing for the 31-year-old rising star.

Justin Rose finished in second place, three strokes back of Snedeker. He took home $864,000. Luke Donald and Ryan Moore tied for third place at -6, and they'll each receive $468,000 for their strong performances. Webb Simpson and Bubba Watson placed fifth and each won $304,000.

Tiger Woods placed eighth, shooting 2-under par for the tournament. He and Hunter Mahan both left with $248,000. Rory McIlroy finished in a tie for 10th place with four other golfers, and they all won $205.7K.

The Tour Championship 2012: Brandt Snedeker Continues Brilliant 2012 With Tournament Victory, FedEx Cup Title

Brandt Snedeker looked confident and steady throughout his final round at the Tour Championship Sunday, taking home the tournament title along with FedEx Cup honors with a score of two-under.

Snedeker sunk three birdies on the back nine before dropping a bogey on his final hole but by then, the biggest victory of his eight-year career has already been secured. Snedeker's overall score of 10-under also earned him the $10 million dollar pot that comes with the FedEx Cup championship.

Snedeker began the tournament in fifth place in the FedEx Cup standings but contenders like Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy weren't able to seal the deal. Woods registered a +2 round thanks to four bogeys and a double bogey Sunday. Woods finished the tournament tied for eighth after a promising showing on Thursday's first round.

McIlroy appeared to be in the driver's seat for the FedEx Cup before turning in a miserable +4 round on Sunday.

2012 Tour Championship: Brant Snedeker Hanging On To Final Round Lead

Brant Snedeker is playing steady and right now, it looks like that is all he will need to secure The Tour Championship. Snedeker is even through eight holes in today's final round, keeping him at eight-under, which is two shots clear of second place Ryan Moore and Justin Rose.

None of Snedeker's chasers are under par for the day, making his even play enough for the moment. Moore is also even today, while Rose is two-over, fourth place Jim Furyk is even and fifth place Bubba Watson is one-over. Without anyone going low, Snekeder isn't being asked to do much.

East Lake Golf Club is causing havoc for the players in the final round and only four players are under par. Webb Simpson is two-under through 14 holes, but that only got him to three-under so it's a little too late for him. Orange, CA native Hunter Mahan is having a great day at four-under, but he is already through 16 holes and is only two-under for the tournament.

Tiger Woods is working on his second over-par round of the tournament. He shot a 73 on Friday and is three-over today after 11 holes. That has him back at one-under for the tournament, seven shots off the pace.

The Tour Championship 2012: Brandt Snedeker, Justin Rose Lead After 3 Rounds Of Play

Brandt Snedeker shot a fantastic 6-under par for the third round of the Tour Championship, which vaulted him all the way to the top of the leaderboard.

Snedeker finished the third round at 8-under par for the tournament, which has him tied with Justin Rose for the lead entering the final round. Rose shot a 2-under par on Saturday.

Ryan Moore also moved up the leaderboard on Saturday, with his 5-under round leaving him at 6-under with one round to go. That score has Moore alone in third place after three rounds of play. Second-round leader Jim Furyk, Rory McIlroy and Bubba Watson are all tied for fourth place, sitting a single stroke behind Moore entering the final round of play.

Tiger Woods shot 3-under for the third round, bouncing back from a Friday that saw him shoot a 73. Woods is tied with a trio of other golfers at 4-under entering Sunday's play. Phil Mickelson went the other way on Saturday, as his 2-over par round saw him drop into a tie for 20th place.

Sunday's final round will be an interesting one, as several golfers could potentially come out on top of the FedEx Cup standings. The projected standings can be found here.

The TOUR Championship 2012: Tiger Woods Returns To Top 10, Jim Furyk Holds Lead

Trying to rebound from a rough second round on Friday, Tiger Woods is 1-under through 12 holes in the third round of the 2012 TOUR Championship on Saturday. He's improved his overall score to 2-under, but he's still trailing leader Jim Furyk by five strokes at the East Lake Country Club in Atlanta, Ga.

At the moment, Furyk has held steady at 7-under overall through a few holes on Saturday, keeping his one-stroke lead. Justin Rose is currently tied for second place at 6-under with Bubba Watson, who birdied the third hole on Saturday to move up the leaderboard.

Ryan Moore has made a major run at East Lake, shooting 4-under in the first nine holes of the third round to move up to fourth on the leaderboard at 5-under. The tournament's initial favorite, Rory McIlroy, has dropped to 2-under overall after bogeying a pair of holes on the front nine Saturday.

Tour Championship 2012 Leaderboard: Tiger Woods Struggles In Second Round

The second round of the 2012 Tour Championship has wrapped up. There were numerous movers both up and down the leaderboard, including Tiger Woods. After a strong showing on Thursday, Woods struggled on Friday and shot 3-over-par to drop his overall score to 1-under for the tournament. He is now tied 12th place after entering the day as the co-leader.

Jim Furyk was the big mover in the second round, shooting six-under par to improve his overall score to 7-under and a spot atop the leaderboard. Furyk birdied seven of his first 10 holes, although two bogeys late on the Back 9 stopped him from having a historic day at East Lake Golf Club.

Justin Rose sits in second place at 6-under through 36 holes. He entered the day tied with Woods for the lead. Bubba Watson and Bo Van Pelt were solid yet again and sit at 5-under, while Dustin Johnson and Matt Kuchar are tied for fifth place at 4-under.

The Tour Championship 2012: Jim Furyk Jumps Out To Leads, Tiger Woods Working Way Up

With most golfers a little through the halfway mark of Friday's 2012 Tour Championship round, Jim Furyk surged up the leaderboard to take sole possession of first place sitting at 8-under. He has seven birdies through his first eleven holes with nothing worse than par on everything else.

Furyk leads fellow American Matt Kuchar by two strokes. Robert Garrigus, Zach Johnson and Tigers Woods round out the top five with all three at 4-under on the day.

Woods has an even score on the day after balancing his first hole bogey out with a birdie on the par-4 third. He still has more than enough time to make up some ground though as he's only through his first six holes on the day.

Rory McIlroy, most people's FedEx Cup favorite, is currently 2-under overall with his 1-under round Friday. McIlroy still has five holes to play.
