Dwight Howard Ruled Out Of Lakers' Preseason Opener

Dwight Howard has been ruled out for the start of training camp and the preseason opener for the Los Angeles Lakers as he rehabs from spinal surgery.

Los Angeles Lakers center Dwight Howard doesn't look like he'll be back for the start of training camp. The Lakers have not given a timetable for his return, but they have revealed that Howard won't be back before training camp tips off or the preseason begins. That would mean Howard won't be ready until at least Oct. 7 against the Golden State Warriors.

Kevin Ding of the Orange County Register believes that Howard might be taking his rehab slow in order to ensure he's totally healthy in time for the regular season, which begins Oct. 30.

Howard is currently rehabilitating from the back surgery he underwent before the 2012 NBA Playoffs; the surgery was done on his spine on April 20 and he has spent most of his time in Los Angeles since, especially after being traded to the Lakers from the Orlando Magic. He did begin his training at the Lakers' practice facility at El Segundo with athletic trainer Gary Vitti and the head of physical therapy Judy Seto.

Talk about Howard and the Lakers by heading on over to Silver Screen and Roll.
