2012 Olympics Medal Count Update: Team USA Moves Into First Place After Day Six

The United States now holds the most medals at the 2012 Olympics in London. They have trailed China throughout the first few days, but a strong showing on Thursday propelled Team USA into the lead with a total of 37. Of those medals, 18 are gold, nine are silver and 10 are bronze.

Their numbers were aided greatly on Thursday by strong showings in swimming, gymnastics and judo.

China now sits in second place overall with 34 medals. Like the US, they have won 18 gold. China also has 11 silver medals and five bronze. Japan is currently in third place with 19 medals; two are gold, six are silver and 11 are bronze. Germany and Russia are now tied for fourth place with 16 medals.
