2012 Farmers Classic: Quarterfinals In The Books

Stay connected for news and updates

The 2012 Farmers Classic continued at UCLA on Friday. At the end of the day, the quarterfinals at the ATP U.S. Open Series event are in the books and Saturday's semifinal matches are set.

No. 2 seed and U.S. player Sam Querrey stayed alive in the tournament, albeit in interesting fashion. His quarterfinal opponent, No. 5 seed Xavier Malisse retired midway through the second set. It likely would have been academic anyway, as Querrey had won the first set 6-2 and was ahead 3-1 in the second set when Malisse withdrew.

The other three quarterfinals matches were a bit more more straightforward and every match was decided in straight sets. Ricardas Berankis upset No. 4 seed Nicolas Mahut, 6-4, 6-4. Likewise, Rajeev Ram upset No. 3 seed Leonardo Mayer, 7-6 (7-3), 6-3. No. 6 Marinko Matosevic dispatched Michael Russell, 6-2 6-3.
