Team USA Vs. Spain Basketball, 2012 Olympics Gold Medal Game: Time, TV Coverage And More

In 2008, the United States men's basketbal team faced off against Spain in the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing and won the gold medal game by a final score of 118-107. Team USA will be trying for a repeat on Sunday as they go for their second straight gold medal on the final day of the 2012 Olympic Games in London.

This may very well end up being the last Team USA "Dream Team" as we have come to know it, as the NBA may shift the focus of the men's national team to be an under-23 showcase as they move toward developing a World Cup of basketball. But on Sunday, we can all cheer for Kobe Bryant, Chris Paul and yes, even LeBron James as they go for the gold against Pau Gasol and the rest of Team Spain.

Sunday's game is scheduled to begin at 7:00 a.m. PT and will be broadcast live on NBC. The game will also be available via a live online stream at NBCOlympics.com

2012 Olympics Basketball: Pau Gasol, Spain Advance To Gold Medal Game With 67-59 Win Over Russia

Pau Gasol had 16 points and 12 rebounds as Spain beat Russia 67-59 to advance to the gold medal game in the 2012 Olympics, the second consecutive Olympic gold medal game for Spain.

Russia led 31-20 at halftime, but a 26-15 advantage in the third quarter tied the score heading into the final period.

Jose Calderon scored 14 points and had three assists for Spain, and made 4-of-9 shots from three-point range. Marc Gasol had 11 points, four rebounds, and three assists in the win.

Sasha Kaun scored 14 points to lead Russia. Andrei Kirilenko added 10 points and eight rebounds in defeat.

Spain will play the winner of the other semifinal, as Team USA battles Argentina Friday afternoon. The United States beat Spain 118-107 in the gold medal game in the 2008 Olympics in Beijing.

The gold medal game will take place on Sunday morning, a 7 a.m. PDT start.

Team USA Basketball Faces Argentina In Semifinal Rematch

Kobe Bryant had a huge explosion in the second half to lift the United States into the semifinal with a substantial victory over Australia. The Aussies gave them everything they could for three quarters before Bryant started scorching from downtown and the all-around playmaking of LeBron James pushed them over the top.

It's very likely everyone on the United States will have to pick up their game in this next round, because Argentina is a far more formidable opponent. Both Bryant and Chris Paul had solid games while Kevin Love continued his all-around excellent play in this tournament. All of those great performances helped carry the USA away (along with excellent Kevin Durant shooting and regular LeBron James creating).

The key to beating Argentina will probably rely on stopping Manu Ginobili and the Argentinian guards from creating and opening up opportunities for wide open threes for their shooters off the dribble. Perimeter discipline will be crucial in this contest, as the USA will have to rely on making a lot of three pointers of their own to try and blow this game open.

The game starts at 1 p.m. PT, with coverage available on TV on NBC Sports Network and the NBC Olympic Basketball channel as well as NBCOlympics.com for streaming online.

Kobe Bryant Strong Second Half Paces USA Basketball To Semifinals

Los Angeles Lakers guard Kobe Bryant did not have a strong first half against Australia, and Team USA seemed to struggle to break away from the Australians as a result. Bryant had trouble with turnovers and getting any of his shots to drop, and the Australians managed to keep the game in single digits for most of the contest.

That all changed in the second half. Bryant exploded for 20 points, hitting all six of his shots from three point range to get him up to that total. That included a devastating barrage of three straight threes to put the game out of reach with the 4th quarter winding down. Kevin Love had 10 points and 11 rebounds (8 offensive), Chris Paul added seven points and five steals to go with three assists, and Russell Westbrook added six points.

The USA will now advance to the semifinals and rematch with Argentina, who edged out Brazil in their quarterfinal matchup.

2012 Olympics, USA vs. Australia Basketball: Start Time, TV Schedule, Online Stream And More

Team USA is a perfect 5-0 in Olympic play, and they'll look to continue their winning ways against Australia on Wednesday. The Aussies only have one NBA player on their roster in Patrick Mills, meaning the game could get out of hand early. This being said, the United States didn't exactly play well in their last game with Argentina and they've lacked focus at times.

As for the U.S., they will look to receive big contributions from players with ties to the Los Angeles area. Kobe Bryant has struggled to score up until this point, although he is admittedly saving himself for the later rounds. Chris Paul has done a very nice job as the starting point guard on both ends of the floor. Kevin Love and Russell Westbrook, who both played their college ball at UCLA, are key assets off the bench.

Here is a guide to where you can find all of the action on Wednesday.

Start Time: Tipoff is scheduled for 9:15 p.m. in London. That's 5:15 p.m. on the east coast, 2:15 in Los Angeles and the rest of the west coast.

TV Schedule: NBC Sports Network will televise the game, as will the Olympics Basketball Channel. Highlights of the game will be shown on NBC in primetime.

Online Stream: NBC will stream the game live through their official site.

Team USA Dominates Argentina In Second Half, Wins Group A

The United States men's basketball team is still undefeated. And they breezed through their last test of pool play with flying colors. The USA outscored Argentina 42-17 in the third quarter to turn a one point lead into 26, and then coasted their way to the end of the contest to win 126-97.

In terms of basketball players with Los Angeles connections, Clipper point guard Chris Paul had 17 points, seven assists, four rebounds and three steals. Former UCLA power forward Kevin Love continues to provide all-around excellent play with 13 points and nine rebounds (including five on the offensive glass). Lakers star Kobe Bryant struggled, shooting 3/10 from the field with 11 points. Russell Westbrook struggled to score, but did have this spectacular dunk.

The USA moves on to face Australia in the quarterfinals, and would face the winner of Brazil and Argentina in the semifinals. So far, so good in the quest for repeat gold for Team USA.

2012 Olympics, Team USA Basketball: U.S. Men Avoid Upset Against Lithuania

Team USA basketball entered the 2012 Olympics as the heavy favorites to bring home gold, but no one told that to Lithuania. Despite being 34-point favorites on Saturday afternoon, the U.S. men nearly blew it against Lithuania and had to rally late to pull out a 99-94 victory.

It was a definite scare for the Americans, and probably one that was needed to remind them they are not invincible.

LeBron James led Team USA down the stretch, completely taking over the game with his talent and athleticism. He ended the day with 20 points. Carmelo Anthony continued to play well in London, going for 20 points as well. Kevin Durant hit four 3-pointers as he finished with 16, while Deron Williams went for 12.

Kobe Bryant did not have a good shooting night, making just one of his seven attempts from the field. He played a total of 20 minutes and had just seven points. Chris Paul continued to be a steady option at the point, dishing out six assists, recording four steals and added six points.

2012 Olympics: Team USA Basketball Dominates Nigeria, 156-73

Team USA Basketball completely dominated Nigeria on Thursday evening, winning by a score of 156-73. It was a complete blowout from the very beginning, with the United States starting the game on a 8-0 run and eventually taking a 78-45 lead at halftime.

Led by Carmelo Anthony and his 10 three-pointers, the US hit 29 shots from behind the arc. They dished out 41 assists, which helped lead to a 82% field goal conversion from inside the arc.

Kobe Bryant, who spends his time with the Lakers, played sparingly with such a large lead. Team USA's coaching staff has been careful with Bryant, especially since they want to save him for tougher competition once medal play begins. Chris Paul of the Clippers continued to be the starting point guard for the United States and did a terrific job facilitating the offense.

It was quite the performance from the team on Thursday, and now they'll look to replicate their success against Lithuania in their next meeting.

London 2012 Olympics: Team USA Thrashes Tunisa

What started out as an expected blowout didn't really seem that way for much of the first half. Tunisia was within five points late in the first half until Team USA stopped joshing around and got into business mode to blowout Tunisia 110-63.

Coach Mike Krzyzewski was displeased with how his starters performed, putting out the reserves to start the second half. Carmelo Anthony, Deron Williams, Russel Westbrook, Kevin Love and Andre Iguodala launched into a 21-3 run to start the third quarter to erase any doubt.

Tunisia put up a constant hussle for loose balls that left Coach K shaking his head as he walked towards the locker room at halftime. The U.S. missed all eight three-point shots in the first before Anthony hit one to open the second quarter. Overall the Americans shot 77% on two-pointers in the first half, but only hit 2 of 12 three-point shots.

Plenty of highlight reel dunks flowed for the Americans against the eventually overwhelmed Tunisia team. Anthony and Love led the U.S. team with 16 points.

The Americans led by just one point after the first quarter, but they outscored France 30-15 in the second quarter, then 26-15 in the third quarter to pull away for an easy win.

USA Basketball And Kobe Bryant Romp Pau Gasol, Spain In Final Exhibition Tune-Up

The United States had early struggles against Spain, but eventually settled down behind hot shooting from Carmelo Anthony and took control after halftime. The Spanish team didn't seem to put out their best rotations, so it's hard to tell all that much from this contest, but it has to be a comforting sign that the USA was able to handle things with a smaller and shallower frontline.

For those judging teammate grudge matches, Pau Gasol did have a better game than his teammate Kobe Bryant. Gasol finished with 19 points and five rebounds, Bryant finished with six points and two rebounds. Bryant seemed more content to facilitate, dishing four assists in this one. The USA was led by Anthony with 27 points; LeBron James chipped in 25 points and eight assists.

Chris Paul had five points and two assists, Kevin Love two points and nine rebounds, and Russell Westbrook added nine points and two boards. The United States men's team now will fly to London from Barcelona and get ready for the Opening Ceremony of the 2012 Olympics on Friday before facing off with France on Sunday.
