The 2012 Masters in Augusta opened up with a thrilling first round on Thursday. Tiger Woods, Patrick Cantlay, Hunter Mahan, Fred Couples and Kevin Chappell are some of the notable golfers with Los Angeles ties who are slugging it out amongst the world's best for a shot at the elusive and prestigious green jacket that denotes a Masters win.

For Woods, he is chasing history. A win in the tournament would give him five Masters victories, one fewer than the record held by Jack Nicklaus. The win would also tie him with Nicklaus for the second-most PGA Tour victories of all time. He would outpace Nicklaus with a win and stand alone as having won the most majors of all time.

There are plenty of storylines to keep watching in this one, not least of which is rooting for UCLA sophomore Cantlay, who enters the Masters as an amateur.
