Reggie Miller Talks Southern California Beginnings During Hall Of Fame Speech

Reggie Miller remembered his Southern California roots fondly as he spoke at his Pro Basketball Hall of Fame induction speech on Friday.

It was a special time for the Indiana Pacers' all-time leading scorer and former UCLA Bruin, who was welcomed into the Hall by Magic Johnson, Charles Barkley and his sister, Cheryl Miller.

He was reminiscent of Johnson and other Lakers legends playing pick-up games against him at UCLA's Pauley Pavilion before being drafted by Indiana in the first round with the 11th overall pick. He became tearful when he recounted how large of an influence his sister -- widely considered the greatest female basketball player of all-time -- had on his career and his development into a prolific scorer.

As a little brother, it was Cheryl who consistently beat up on him and made him into a tougher player.

Miller's legacy is now that of a clutch performer who always shined in the big moment. Despite all of the fame and glory, the Riverside, Calif. native who starred at Polytechnic (Poly) High School did not forget where he came from.

NBA Hall Of Fame 2012: Lakers, UCLA Star Jamal Wilkes Speaks At Induction

Few players have made an impact on Los Angeles basketball as Jamal Wilkes has. After making a name for himself with the UCLA Bruins in the 1970s, Wilkes spent the next 11 years playing in the NBA from 1974 to 1985. He spent eight years with the Lakers, winning two championships in 1980 and 1982. He wrapped up the back-end of his career in '85 with the Clippers, winning another title.

Wilkes made a brief speech as he was inducted into the NBA Hall of Fame on Friday night. After he thanked numerous coaches, teammates, friends and family members, he wrapped everything up with a quote former coach John Wooden once said to him.

"Make each day your masterpiece. You can't do anything about yesterday. It's over. Tomorrow is yet to come, but tomorrow is in large part determined by what you do today. So make today a masterpiece."

It was a fitting end to a speech from a man who meant so much to the L.A. basketball scene over the years.
