Caroline Wozniacki returns to Indian Wells, California to defend her title in the 2012 BNP Paribas Open, which begins on Wednesday. The fourth-ranked Wozniacki has been to the last two BNP Paribas Open finals, falling to Jelena Jankovic in 2010. Her path to the final could be bumpy, with possible matches with former champions Ana Ivanovic (fourth round) and Maria Sharapova (semifinals) potentially on the docket.
World No. 1 Victoria Azarenka takes her 17-0 record in 2012 into the tournament, and could face Jankovic in the quarterfinals.
Top-ranked men's player and two-time BNP Paribas Open champion Novak Djokovic headlines the men's field, which includes each of the top 11 players and 28 of the top 29 players in the world.
The Tennis Channel will begin coverage, with eight hours per day of action from March 10 through March 15. On Friday, March 16, Tennis Channel and ESPN2 will split the coverage, with ABC providing final weekend coverage. In addition, much of the tournament will be streamed live at ESPN3.com.
