Eugene Phelps scored 23 points and grabbed nine rebounds, leading the Long Beach State 49ers to an 89-69 road win over the UC Davis Aggies on Saturday night. The 49ers extended their regular season Big West Conference winning streak to 20 games, the third longest in school history, and had a couple of individual accomplishments of note.
The 49ers also had a couple of milestones during Saturday's game. T.J. Robinson had 14 points and 11 boards in the game, and now has 1,119 rebounds in his career, surpassing Troy Neal of Cal State Fullerton (1,115) for the most rebounds in Big West history.
Point guard Casper Ware had two assists to go with his 16 points, breaking his tie with for the most assists in Long Beach State history. Ware has 509 assists in his career.
The Long Beach State record for a conference winning streak is 25 games, stretching from the 1970-1971 season into the 1971-1972 season. The 49ers had a 22-game winning streak from the 1972-1973 season to the 1974-1975 campaign. The 49ers (19-6, 12-0) matched that 1973-1974 season for best start to a conference season.
Long Beach State has no Big West game next week, but battles No. 17 Creighton next Saturday in a Bracket Buster affair.
