Hamilton surprised everyone when he signed with L.A. this past week.

The Los Angeles Angels weren't even linked to Josh Hamilton as of a couple of days ago. It was tough to gain a great sense of who his suitors were, and it was always expected that a mystery team could swoop in and sign him.

On Thursday, that's exactly what the Angels did. Hamilton agreed to a five-year deal worth $125 million, making him one of the wealthiest players in the game. Perhaps most notably, LAA prevented the Rangers or Mariners, which were the two favorites to land the 32-year-old outfielder, from signing him.

After undergoing a physical on Friday in the L.A. area, Hamilton is expected to be announced by the team on Saturday. According to an official release from the front office, "The Angels are scheduled to make a major announcement tomorrow at 11:30 a.m. PST at the ESPN Zone at Downtown Disney."

Hamilton will make his Angels debut on April 1, 2013, as the team opens the year with the Reds. He will make his first home start at Angels Stadium on Tuesday, April 9.
