Mike Brown Fired: Lakers considering Mike D'Antoni, according to report

The Los Angeles Lakers are potentially interested in hiring Mike D'Antoni as the team's next head coach.

The Los Angeles Lakers are potentially interested in hiring Mike D'Antoni as the team's next head coach, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports.

Citing sources, Wojnarowski states that while the team's ownership group had been discussing the concept of firing Brown, that D'Antoni's name was prominently involved as a potential replacement if Brown was to be relieved of his duties.

D'Antoni recently underwent knee surgery, which will keep him from being able to coach until late December. However, he is a person of interest to the Lakers and it will not stop him from taking the job if it was offered to him, according to Ken Berger of CBSSports.com.

D'Antoni was last employed as the head coach of the New York Knicks and spent four years leading the team before resigning last March. Prior to coaching the Knicks, he acted as the head coach of the Phoenix Suns for five seasons and also spent one season as the head coach of the Denver Nuggets during the strike-shortened 1998-99 season. In 727 games as a head coach, D'Antoni has accumulated a 388-339 record and has led five teams to the playoffs, which includes two Western Conference Finals appearances.
