NFL Stadium in LA: AEG, Fair Play Coaltion reach agreement

Kevork Djansezian

The quest to bring an NFL stadium to Los Angeles cleared a hurdle on Thursday.

There are many aspects that come with bringing a new NFL stadium to town. Not only does the league have to secure the commitments of a franchise, sponsors and contractors, but also plan for the changes it would bring to the community. This means the development of local housing, business development and means of transportation to and from the stadium.

The Play Fair Coalition has secured commitments from Farmers Field on a wide range of community benefits and measures, according to a report from FarmersField.com. This includes funding to make affordable houses in the area, air quality improvement projects, additional parks and open space and a community team to promote health in the surrounding area, among other things.

Here is what AEG President and CEO Tim Leiweke had to say about the developments:

"We are excited about the opportunity for our foundations, our corporate partners and the rest of the philanthropic community to play an active role in leveraging the good will of AEG and Farmers Field to help deliver even greater benefits to those most in need. With this important milestone, for the first time in almost two decades the City of Los Angeles is finally poised to see the return of the NFL."

No timetable has been set for when construction of Farmers Field in the L.A. area could begin, although these developments can only mean good things moving forward.
