UCLA vs. Utah: Bruins sticking with senior cornerbacks

The UCLA Bruins have some tough decisions to make with their secondary.

The UCLA Bruins secondary has struggled this season, especially at the cornerback positions. The team is giving up an average of 24 points per game, and it is coming off a blowout loss to the Cal Bears in which it gave up 295 passing yards, four touchdowns and only saw five passes go incomplete.

SB Nation's UCLA blog, Bruins Nation, examined the situation and would not be against allowing a couple of highly-regarded freshmen get their chances at cornerback. As head coach Jim Mora said, though, he does not expect major changes and feels the defense as a whole needs to help out seniors Sheldon Price and Aaron Hester.

We've gotta help them as a defense. We have to continue to get pressure. We have to do a good job in our underneath drops, we have to help them in good calls at the right situation, but they have to make plays. I think they'll respond, I do. What I'd like to see is a higher level of consistency in the play. Not so up and down.

It will be interesting to see if Mora sticks with his veterans on defense or if he elects to incorporate some of his talented underclassmen much more often. The upcoming slate of games is tough for the Bruins, and it begins with a home game with the Utah Utes this weekend.
