David Beckham, Bruce Arena, And Tim Leiweke Formally Announce New Two Year Deal With LA Galaxy

Today president of AEG Tim Leiweke was able to announce that the LAGalaxy had signed midfielder David Beckham to a two year contract at Staples Center on January 19, 2012 in Los Angeles, California. LA Galaxy Head Coach Bruce Arena was there to express his happiness with the star returning. The conference was capped off with a presentation to Beckham of his new jersey.

The new Galaxy home jersey pays tribute to the shirt the Galaxy wore before they signed David Beckham, with a sash across the front. The sash shirt was first designed by Nike, and later adopted by the National Team. Adidas did one year of sash, in a shirt that followed the same template as the new jersey, before redesigning the Galaxy for David Beckham.

But there was more to the conference than new shirts and three star logos. Those in attendance and those watching the live stream learned that the decision to stay in Los Angeles was made over a glass of wine at home at New Years. The picture Beckham painted of his home life was quiet and simple, with his kids education seeming to take precedence over the pursuit of wealth.

The Galaxy start pre-season camp on Monday, and this year will be Beckham's first full camp. With Landon Donovan and Robbie Keane on loan, Beckham will have to step up and mentor the new recruits as well as find the rhythm with his new partner in central midfield Marcelo Sarvas. The Galaxy will participate in a preseason tournament in Arizona, before a CONCACAF Champions league series with Toronto and MLS First Kick in March.

David Beckham Signs Two Year Deal With LA Galaxy

David Beckham may have been showing up at matches all across England, but it was announced today that he was able to agree to a two year contract with the LA Galaxy. This comes despite rumours that he was heading the Paris St Germain, Tottenham Hotspur, or even a return to Manchester United on loan. The news conference announcing the deal will be held tomorrow.

MLS' best selling jersey, and one of the biggest reasons the LA Galaxy became a household name, David Beckham had a career year last year, setting a career mark in assists and his second highest minutes total. He started the same number of game this past year as he did when he was 32.

"This was an important decision for me," Galaxy midfielder David Beckham said. "I had many offers from clubs from around the world, however, I'm still passionate about playing in America and winning trophies with the Galaxy."

The deal keeps him with the Galaxy through 2013, and reportedly allows him to take time for the London Olympics. In his five years with the Galaxy, Beckham was twice named to the MLS All-Star team, and was selected to the MLS Best XI team after this year. While he didn't always bowl over his critics, he did finally fall into a grove.

"I've seen first hand how popular soccer is now in the States and I'm as committed as ever to growing the game here," he added. "My family and I are incredibly happy and settled in America and we look forward to spending many more years here."

David Beckham To Announce His Return At Thursday Press Conference, According To Source

Early this morning, it was confirmed by a source to Soccer By Ives that David Beckham would be announcing his return to the LA Galaxy at the press conference tomorrow. Yahoo Sports claims that press conference is likely to be held in a downtown AEG property, either Staples or at LA Live. The Galaxy held their MLS Cup celebration party at Staples, and had their third kit unveiling at LA Live.

Yahoo Sports is also reporting that allowing Beckham time off to be an ambassador for the London Olympics, as well as playing in them, was a key component in Beckham returning. Paris St. Germain, Beckham's most vocal suitor, would have been in offseason during the Olympics. PSG could also offer Beckham more money.

This could mean that PSG was not so much a place Beckham hoped to land, but rather a tool to get leverage on the Galaxy where a 36 year old man would not usually have leverage. Keep in mind, this is a man who claimed he had to leave the Cup part early to take his kids to school. Putting family first, especially when the kids are school age and a baby in the house, usually doesn't mean moving across a continent and an ocean.

The full story won't come out until tomorrow's press conference, if the conference is indeed happening tomorrow. Beckham does have an online chat planned via Google+ for that morning. Contract details will likely trickle out over the next month.
