Eugene Phelps scored 23 points and grabbed 11 rebounds, leading the Long Beach St. 49ers to an 86-58 win over the UC Davis Aggies at the Walter Pyramid Thursday night. Long Beach State extended their home winning streak to 16 games, and improved to 4-0 in Big West Conference play this season.
The 49ers (11-6, 4-0) held a narrow lead over UC Davis (1-15, 0-4) at halftime, but Long Beach State shot 65.6% in the second half (21 for 32), including five for 10 from three-point range. The 49ers outscored the Aggies 51-29 in the second 20 minutes. The loss was the 12th straight for UC Davis.
James Ennis added 18 points and six rebounds for Long Beach State, making seven of his 10 field goal attempts. The 49ers outrebounded the Aggies 35-33. Josh Ritchart led UC Davis with 12 points in the loss.
Long Beach State hosts Pacific Saturday night at Walter Pyramid, looking to extend their winning streak to five games.
