Encarnacion Hits A Walk-off Single Against Takahashi To Defeat Angels In Extras, 5-4

The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim will limp home to host a four-game series against the Rangers as the Angels lose two of three to the Blue Jays.

Angels pitcher Hisanori Takahashi allowed Edwin Encarnacion ’s game-ending RBI single in the bottom of the 10th, which resulted in a 5-4 loss to the Blue Jays on Sunday.

Jordan Walden came in the 9th inning to preserve a 4-3 lead, but Colby Rasmus doubled to deep right center with one out in the 9th inning, followed by a double by fellow rookie Brett Lawrie, which tied the game and gave Walden his eighth blown save of the season.

Angels starter Dan Haren pitched seven solid innings, allowing five hits and three earned runs, but allowed two home runs Eric Thames and Jose Bautista. Haren was matched by another solid performance from Jays starter Brett Cecil, who pitched seven innings, allowing four earned runs on five hits and a home run by Torii Hunter in the first inning.

This wasn’t a good Eastern road trip for the Halos as they only won two games against the Yankees and Blue Jays and losing four. The Angels are now four games back behind the Rangers in the AL West.

Rookie starter Garrett Richards (0-1) will make his second career start tomorrow as he faces fireballer Alex Ogando (11-5). Game time begins at 7:05 PT.
