Chris Jones scored 22 points and grabbed six rebounds to lead the North Texas Mean Green over the Loyola Marymount Lions 76-63 Sunday night at Gersten Pavilion, in the final day of the DoubleTree Los Angeles Westside Centennial Classic. It capped a rough weekend for LMU, who lost two of three games in their own tournament, with their only win coming against an NAIA school in La Sierra.
Despite shooting 60.9% from the field in the first half, LMU trailed 38-35 at halftime thanks in part to nine turnovers. The Lions turned ice cold in the second half, making just eight of 25 field goals (32%) while committing seven more turnovers. North Texas only had four turnovers for the whole game.
LaRon Armstead scored 16 points and grabbed seven points to lead Loyola Marymount. He was the only Lion to score in double figures. The Lions are off until Saturday, when they host the Idaho State Bengals at Gersten Pavilion.
Earlier in the day in the Westside Centennial Classic, the Columbia Lions beat La Sierra 78-56.
