Diamond Head Classic, Long Beach State Vs. Auburn: 49ers Win 64-43, Advance To Tournament Final

Honolulu, HI (Sports Network) - Larry Anderson scored 16 points to lead the 49ers as Long Beach State took down the Auburn Tigers 64-43 in a semifinal round game of the Diamond Head Classic at the Stan Sheriff Center. Eugene Phelps and Casper Ware each scored 13 points for Long Beach State (7-5), as it won its third in a row. T.J. Robinson pulled down a game-high nine rebounds.

Frankie Sullivan paced the Tigers (8-2) with 22 points and six rebounds. The loss snapped Auburn's four-game winning streak.

The 49ers took a 7-5 lead with 14:25 left in the first frame and never looked back. Long Beach State led 32-22 at the intermission after shooting 50 percent from the field in the first half. The Tigers struggled offensively in the opening period as they shot 23.1 percent from the floor.

Auburn's shooting woes continued as it made just 29 percent of its shots from the field in the second half. Long Beach State cooled off to a field goal percentage of 37 after halftime, but connected on 9-of-12 from the charity stripe to cruise to the victory.

The 49ers enjoyed a 43-25 advantage in the rebounding battle in the contest. Long Beach State will face Kansas State for the tournament title on Sunday.
