Pac 12 Championship Game 2011 Projections: UCLA Needs Win Over USC To Win South Division

UCLA needs a win over USC or a loss by Utah to clinch the Pac-12 South Division.

2011 Bowl Projections: UCLA In Line For Alamo Bowl Bid, Wants More

With their decisive win over the Colorado Buffaloes on Saturday evening in Pasadena, the UCLA Bruins are now bowl eligible. The only question now is where will the Bruins end up during college football bowl season. Jason Kirk at SB Nation projects UCLA going to the Alamo Bowl on December 29 against the Oklahoma Sooners, but the Bruins still have the Rose Bowl in play.

UCLA (6-5, 5-3) needs a win over the USC Trojans on Saturday night (or losses by both Arizona State and Utah) to win the Pac-12 South Division and secure a spot in the inaugural Pac-12 Championship Game, though the Bruins will likely be heavy underdogs against the No. 10 Trojans. Even if UCLA beats USC, they would then have to win a road game in either Oregon or Stanford to go to their first Rose Bowl in 13 years.

The Bruins have a four-game home winning streak, but have also lost their last three road games by a combined score of 141-37. To secure another home game, on January 2 in the Rose Bowl, they would have to win two road games against two top 10 teams. That would be quite a feat for UCLA.

UCLA Vs. Colorado Final Score: Bruins Coast To 45-6 Win

The UCLA Bruins hosted the Colorado Buffaloes on Saturday evening, hoping to improve on their Pac-12 record and give the Rose Bowl crowd a happy final memory as they played their last home game of the 2011 season. They accomplished both task with apparent ease en route to picking up a 45-6 victory.

The Bruins improve to 6-5 overall and 5-3 in Pac-12 play, while Colorado drops to 2-10 overall, and a miserable 1-7 in the conference. UCLA jumped out to a huge early lead, scoring 21 unanswered points in the first quarter. As it turns out, the Bruins would never end up needing more than their first touchdown and extra point.

The UCLA defense completely dominated Colorado, specifically their quarterback Tyler Hansen, who threw three interceptions and finished with 127 total yards. The only time Colorado would find the end zone was on a second quarter touchdown pass by Prince, after which Will Oliver missed the PAT.

By contrast, UCLA quarterback Kevin Prince finished 15-for-19 with four touchdowns and no interceptions, while passing for 225 yards. Two of his touchdown passes were to Joseph Fauria; one in the first quarter and one in the fourth. Johnathan Franklin led all rushers with 162 yards on 15 carries with a touchdown.

UCLA Vs. Colorado Score Update: Bruins Hold 31-6 Lead In Fourth Quarter

The UCLA Bruins have been streaky throughout much of the 2011 season. At times they look befuddled and disorganized, and at other times everything seems to be going right, the team firing on all cylinders. So far in their game against the Colorado Buffaloes, the story has very much been a case of the latter. At the beginning of the fourth quarter, the Bruins are on top by a score of 31-6.

Colorado quarterback Tyler Hansen has looked hurried and bewildered by the Bruins defense for much of the game. He has thrown two interception and has passed for 108 of Colorado's 148 total yards. UCLA has done a great job of containing the Buffaloes in this game.

Although UCLA's offensive output has slowed after putting up21 unanswered points in the first quarter, they still managed to pick up three more in the third quarter on a 22 yard field goal by Tyler Gonzalez. At  the beginning of the fourth quarter, the Bruins were able to pick up another touchdown on a Kevin Prince touchdown pass to Joseph Fauria.

UCLA Vs. Colorado Score Update: Bruins Lead 21-6 at Halftime

The UCLA Bruins are hoping to emerge from Saturday night's game against the Colorado Buffaloes with a win that would improve their record to 5-3 in Pac-12 play. Through the first half of play, they are well on their way to achieving that goal.

The Bruins came out with guns blazing, racking up 21 unanswered points in the first quarter on two Kevin Prince TD passes and a Johnathan Franklin touchdown run. Both teams were mostly quiet in the second quarter, however. The Buffaloes scored an early touchdown pass from Tyler Hansen to Toney Clemons, but Will Oliver missed the extra point. The Buffaloes made a drive in the closing moments of the first half, but headed into the locker room at halftime with the score still 21-6 in favor of the Bruins.

UCLA will need to keep up the offensive assault they displayed in the first quarter and continue to contain Colorado as well as they have so far. The Buffaloes have been held to only 117 total yards.

UCLA Vs. Colorado Score Update: Bruins Come Roaring Out To 21-0 Lead

The UCLA Bruins are hosting the Colorado Buffaloes on Senior Day, and the Bruins are already making a strong statement. At the beginning of the second quarter, UCLA already boasts a 21-0 lead over their struggling Pac-12 rivals.

Quarterback Kevin Prince launched a 54-yard touchdown pass as his first toss of the evening, which was hauled in perfectly by Shaquelle Evans. On the very next possession, the Buffaloes drew a false start and gained nine yards before Colorado's Tyler Hansen threw an interception to Sean Westgate, who ran the ball back to the Colorado 14. On the very next play, Johnathan Franklin scored a rushing touchdown, putting the Bruins up 14-0 on only three offensive plays, less than four minutes into the game.

UCLA was also able to pick up another first quarter touchdown on a pass from Prince to Joseph Fauria. The Bruins begin the second quarter up 21-0 and the 2-9 Colorado team is looking very overmatched.
