2012 Rose Bowl: Oregon Vs. Wisconsin After 42-39 Win Over Michigan State In Big Ten Championship Game

Montee Ball ran for 137 yards on 27 carries with four total touchdowns, leading the No. 15 Wisconsin Badgers to a 42-39 victory over the No. 11 Michigan St. Spartans in the inaugural Big Ten Championship Game at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis. This means the 2012 Rose Bowl matchup is set, with the Badgers facing Oregon Ducks in Pasadena on January 2.

Wisconsin quarterback Russell Wilson threw for three touchdowns and passed for 187 yards on the night. One of his touchdown passes went to Ball, who has 38 on the season, one shy of the FBS record set by Barry Sanders in 1988.

The Badgers got off to a roaring start, building a 21-7 lead after one quarter, but the Spartans scored 22 unanswered points in the second period for a 29-21 halftime lead. The two teams battled back and forth in the second half, trading scores until Wisconsin ultimately seized the lead with 4:45 remaining on a seven-yard rushing touchdown from Ball.

It was the second meeting of the season between the two schools, as Michigan State won 37-31 on a last-second Hail Mary pass on October 22 in East Lansing. In two meetings this season, Michigan State and Wisconsin combined for 149 points and 1,658 yards of offense.

Kirk Cousins threw for 281 yards and three touchdowns for Michigan State, who were trying for their first trip to the Rose Bowl in 24 years. Le'Veon Bell ran for 106 yards on 18 carries and one touchdown for Spartans.

Wisconsin is 3-1 all-time against Oregon, though the two schools haven't faced one another since 2001.

Rose Bowl History

The Badgers are 3-4 all-time in the Rose Bowl, with their last appearance coming last season:

Rose Bowl 2012: Michigan State Leads Wisconsin 29-21 At Halftime, 30 Minutes From First Trip To Pasadena In 24 Years

The inaugural Big Ten Championship Game has been played for 30 on-field minutes so far Saturday night at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, and we aren't any closer to knowing which team will face the Oregon Ducks in the 2012 Rose Bowl. After a thrilling, back-and-forth first half, the Wisconsin Badgers lead the Michigan St. Spartans 29-21 at halftime.

Michigan State last played in the Rose Bowl on January 1, 1988, 24 seasons ago. Eight different Big Ten teams have played in the Rose Bowl since the last time the Spartans played in Pasadena in January.

Just like in their first matchup on October 22 in East Lansing, Wisconsin jumped out to an early 14-point lead, as the Badgers led 21-7 after the first quarter. Just like that matchup six weeks ago, the Spartans came roaring back, as quarterback Kirk Cousins spearheaded three touchdown drives in the second quarter to give Michigan State a 29-21 lead. Cousins completed 11 of 12 passes for 178 yards and two touchdown passes in the first half.

Tailback Montee Ball had 107 yards on 16 carries and a pair of touchdowns for Wisconsin in the first half. With 36 total touchdowns on the season Ball is just three scores away from tying the FBS record of 39, set by Barry Sanders of the Oklahoma St. Cowboys in 1988.

The 2012 Rose Bowl Game will be played on Monday, January 2, 2012 in Pasadena. Kickoff is scheduled for 2:10 p.m. PDT. The game will be televised by ESPN, with Brent Musberger, Kirk Hirbstreit, and Lisa Salters on the call. Stay tuned for more updates as the game approaches.

Rose Bowl Projections: Wisconsin Big Favorite Over Michigan State To Join Oregon In Pasadena

The 2012 Rose Bowl game is almost set. We already know that the Oregon Ducks will be in Pasadena on January 2, thanks to their 49-31 victory over the UCLA Bruins Friday night in the Pac-12 Football Championship Game. We find out Oregon's opponent on Saturday night, as the Wisconsin Badgers battle the Michigan St. Spartans in the inaugural Big Ten Championship game.

The Badgers are heavy favorites to beat the Spartans on Saturday night, favored by between 9.5 and 10 points, per Odds Shark. Michigan State already beat Wisconsin earlier this year, but that was a home game for the Spartans in East Lansing, and they won 37-31 in a wacky game that ended on a last-second Hail Mary.

The Big Ten Championship Game will be held at a neutral site, at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Wisconsin quarterback Russell Wilson could set a record for most consecutive games with a touchdown pass (37) should he throw on on Saturday night. Wilson and tailback Montee Ball form a dynamic duo in the backfield, propelling the Badgers' offense to a Big Ten-best 44.8 points per game. Ball has scored 34 touchdowns on the season, five behind the FBS record set by Barry Sanders in 1988.

Should Wisconsin win on Saturday night, they would make their second consecutive Rose Bowl and eighth overall. Michigan State is vying for their fifth Rose Bowl trip, and their first since 1988.

Pac-12 Championship Game: LaMichael James Wins MVP, Oregon Ducks Advance To Sixth Rose Bowl With 49-31 Win Over UCLA Bruins

The Oregon Ducks won the inaugural Pac-12 Football Championship Game on Friday night, beating the UCLA Bruins 49-31 for their third consecutive conference crown and third consecutive BCS bowl game. The Ducks earned a berth in the 2012 Rose Bowl, their sixth-ever trip to Pasadena.

Junior tailback LaMichael James ran for 220 yards on 25 carries, the fourth game this season with 200 or more yards on the ground. James, who also scored three touchdowns, was named the game's MVP. "It means a lot. I love these guys right here," James said while gesturing to his teammates as he accepted the trophy.

Oregon, who lost to the Auburn Tigers in the 2011 BCS Championship Game, has played in five previous Rose Bowls, but hasn't won one since in 94 years:

  • 2010: Ohio State 26, Oregon 17
  • 1995: Penn State 38, Oregon 20
  • 1958: Ohio State 10, Oregon 7
  • 1920: Harvard 7, Oregon 6
  • 1917: Oregon 14, Pennsylvania 0

The Ducks will await the winner of Saturday's Big Ten Championship Game between the Wisconsin Badgers and Michigan State Spartans.

2012 Rose Bowl Predictions: Michigan State, Wisconsin Big Ten Championship Game Is Hard To Judge

The Michigan State Spartans (10-2, 7-1) should feel pretty disrespected. As their matchup with the Wisconsin Badgers (10-2, 6-2) approaches, they are listed as the underdogs to a team they beat in the first game of the season on a Kirk Cousins' Hail Mary to Keith Nichol.

But how the Badgers have responded and looked like the team everyone expected them to be at the start of the season, the Spartans are again taking the backseat to the team everyone pegged as the frontrunner for the Big Ten championship this season.

The Badgers knocked off the Penn State Nittany Lions on Saturday, 45-7, to clinch the Big Ten Leaders Division and earn the right to play the Spartans in the first Big Ten Conference Championship Game at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.

The records are similar and the Spartans have the win over the Badgers. But the Spartans lost to Nebraska 24-3 and the Badgers beat the Cornhuskers, 48-17. Aside from their head-to-head matchup, that is the only way to truly gauge these two teams.

Whatever happens, they'll more than likely meet the Oregon Ducks in the Rose Bowl, unless UCLA somehow channels Rudy and produces an upset of epic proportions to win the first Pac 12 championship.

2012 Rose Bowl Predictions: Oregon, Wisconsin Heavy Favorites To Meet In Pasadena

Vegas has already made their verdict on who will end up reaching Pasadena next January. The Oregon Ducks and the Wisconsin Badgers are big favorites to win their respective conference title games, which would set up a very compelling matchup in the 2012 Rose Bowl.

Oregon is favored by an incredible 30 points over the bumbling and stumbling UCLA Bruins, most likely because the game is being contested at Autzen Stadium in Eugene rather than at a neutral site; the Ducks are all but expected to cruise onto the Rose Bowl. It's a closer sort of thing between Wisconsin and Michigan State, but the Badgers are still touchdown favorites over the Spartans despite the fact that MSU scored the upset the last time the two teams played.

Can UCLA and Michigan State use this as a rallying cry to score big upsets this weekend?

To talk about the four teams in contention for the Rose Bowl, head to Addicted to Quack (Oregon), Bruins Nation (UCLA), Bucky's 5th Quarter (Wisconsin), and The Only Colors (Michigan State).

Pac-12 Championship Game Set: Oregon Blasts Oregon State 49-21 In Civil War, Will Host UCLA Friday Night In Eugene

Darron Thomas threw for 294 yards and four touchdowns, leading the Oregon Ducks to a 49-21 win over the Oregon St. Beavers in the 115th edition of the Civil War Saturday afternoon at Autzen Stadium in Eugene. The win clinched the Pac-12 North Division for the Ducks, who will host the UCLA Bruins in the the inaugural Pac-12 Football Championship Game next Friday night.

LaMichael James ran for 139 yards on 24 carries and a touchdown, but also left the game in the third quarter with a left elbow injury and did not return. His status for next week is unknown. The Ducks (10-2, 8-1) racked up 667 yards of offense against the Beavers, including 373 yards on the ground, as well as 40 first downs.

Oregon and Pac-12 South Division representative UCLA (6-5, 5-3) didn't play one another this season, but they did battle in the previous five years. Oregon has beaten UCLA in their last three meetings and has won eight of their last 10 matchups dating back to 2000.

The inaugural Pac-12 Championship Football Game will be played on Friday, December 2 at 5 p.m. PT on Fox. For more UCLA football news and information, be sure to read Bruins Nation.

Rose Bowl Projections 2012: Penn State Vs. Wisconsin, Oregon Vs. Oregon State Civil War To Narrow Field To Four

We are getting closer and closer to finding out the participants in the 2012 Rose Bowl. For the first time ever, both the Pac-12 and Big Ten Conferences will hold a football championship game. The Michigan State Spartans clinched a spot in the Big Ten Championship Game last week, and the UCLA Bruins clinched a spot in the Pac-12 Championship Game on Friday. There are four teams vying for the final two spots in the conference title games on Saturday afternoon.

Pac-12: The Civil War, Oregon State Beavers at Oregon Ducks

At 12:30 p.m. PST on ABC (or ESPN2 in some markets), the Ducks will host the Beavers in Eugene in the 115th edition of what is known in the state of Oregon as The Civil War. Oregon is a four-touchdown favorite (per Odds Shark) in this battle and is looking for their fourth straight victory over Oregon State.

If the Ducks (9-2, 7-1) win against their rival, they win the Pac-12 North Division and earn the right to host the Bruins in the inaugural Pac-12 Championship Game on Friday, December 2. Should Oregon lose, the Stanford Cardinal (10-1, 8-1) are happy to step in as division champions, and they would host the Bruins next Friday in Palo Alto.

Big Ten: Penn State Nittany Lions at Wisconsin Badgers

Kicking off at the same time as The Civil War, the Nittany Lions (9-2, 6-1) and Badgers (9-2, 5-2) will battle in Madison, Wisconsin at 12:30 p.m. PST on ESPN. Wisconsin is a two-touchdown favorite over Penn State (per Odds Shark), with the winner crowned champion of the Big Ten Leaders Division.

The winner will battle Michigan State in the inaugural Big Ten Championship Game on Saturday, December 3 at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis. The Spartans, winners of the Big Ten Legends Division, defeated Wisconsin 37-31 on October 22 in East Lansing. Michigan State did not play Penn State this season.

Rose Bowl Rematches

There are nine possible Rose Bowl matchups with the six teams still alive. Of those matchups, there are six possible rematches of previous Rose Bowls:

  • 1954: Michigan State 28, UCLA 20
  • 1956: Michigan State 17, UCLA 14
  • 1966: UCLA 14, Michigan State 12
  • 1994: Wisconsin 21, UCLA 16
  • 1995: Penn State 38, Oregon 20
  • 1999: Wisconsin 38, UCLA 31

Rose Bowl Projections: Penn State, Wisconsin Battle For Big Ten Leaders Division, Step Closer To Pasadena

The 2012 Rose Bowl will feature one of three possible teams from the Big Ten. The Michigan State Spartans have already punched their ticket to the inaugural Big Ten Championship Game, clinching the Legends Division. The Leaders Division will be decided with a Saturday afternoon battle in Madison between the No. 19 Penn State Nittany Lions and the No. 16 Wisconsin Badgers.

Wisconsin (9-2, 5-2) is a whopping 15-point favorite at home against the embattled Penn State (9-2, 6-1) squad, per our friends at Odds Shark. Both teams are coming off road wins last week, with Penn State beating Ohio State 20-14 and Wisconsin winning 28-17 at Illinois. Their matchup on Saturday is a 12:30 p.m. PST battle that will be televised nationally by ESPN.

A win by the Badgers over the Nittany Lions would give us a rematch of the amazingly entertaining October 22 battle, won 37-31 at home by Michigan State thanks to a Hail Mary in the final seconds. Wisconsin has won their last 14 consecutive home games at Camp Randall Stadium. Penn State has not played Michigan State this season.

The Big Ten Championship Game will be held on Saturday, December 3 at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis. The 5 p.m. PST game (actually, the kickoff is scheduled for 5:17 p.m. PST) will be televised by Fox, with the winner headed for Pasadena and a Rose Bowl berth against the Pac-12 champion.

2012 Rose Bowl Projections: Oregon, Wisconsin In Line For Pasadena, But Several Scenarios In Play

After a crazy day of upsets in college football, including the USC Trojans beating the Oregon Ducks 38-35 at Autzen Stadium in Eugene, the 2012 Rose Bowl picture is becoming more and more clear. Oregon and the Wisconsin Badgers still appear in line to face one another in Pasadena on January 2, but there are still a few scenarios in play.

Pac-12

The North Division is simple. If Oregon (9-2, 7-1) is able to beat the Oregon State Beavers in The Civil War, they win the division and host the Pac-12 Championship Game. Should Oregon State beat Oregon, the division title goes to the Stanford Cardinal (10-1, 8-1), who wrap up their schedule with a non-conference home game against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.

With USC ineligible for postseason play, the South Division has three teams in play:

The UCLA Bruins (6-5, 5-3) are in control of their own destiny. If they beat USC, they win the South and head north for the Pac-12 Championship Game on Friday, December 2. If the Bruins lose, they need Utah to lose as well to win the division.

The Arizona State Sun Devils (6-5, 4-4) win if there is a three-way tie, so they need a home win over the Cal Golden Bears, a loss by UCLA to USC, and a win by Utah over Colorado.

The Utah Utes (7-4, 4-4), who began their first season in the Pac-12 with four straight conference losses, have now won four straight contests. Utah needs three things: a win over conference doormat Colorado, a UCLA loss to USC, and an Arizona State loss to California.

Big Ten

The Michigan State Spartans clinched the Legends Division on Saturday, so their spot in the inaugural Big Ten Championship Game on Saturday, December 3 is secure. They will battle the winner of the Leaders Division, which is down to two teams. The Penn State Nittany Lions (9-2, 6-1) travel to Madison, Wisconsin on Saturday to battle Wisconsin (9-2, 5-2), with the prize the first ever Big Ten Leaders Division championship.

Rose Bowl Projections: Michigan State Clinches Spot In Big Ten Championhip Game

The Michigan State Spartans are one step closer to their first Rose Bowl in 23 years. The Spartans' 55-3 win over the Indiana Hoosiers on Saturday clinched a spot for Michigan State in the Big Ten Football Championship Game.

The inaugural Big Ten Football Championship Game will be played on Saturday, December 3 at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, with the winner awarded a spot in the Rose Bowl. The Spartans will play the winner of the November 26 game between the Penn State Nittany Lions and Wisconsin Badgers in Madison.

Michigan State (9-2, 6-1) holds a one-game lead over Michigan (9-2, 5-2) in the Big Ten Legends Division, and each have one game left in the regular season. Even if the Spartans lose next week and the Wolverines win, Michigan State holds the tiebreaker by virtue of beating Michigan 28-14 on October 15. The Spartans have been to the Rose Bowl four times in school history: wins over the UCLA Bruins in 1954 and 1956, a loss to UCLA in 1966, and a win over the USC Trojans in 1988.

Rose Bowl Projections: Oregon Ducks, Wisconsin Badgers Could Be Headed For Pasadena

The Oregon Ducks seized control of the Pac-12 North Division with an impressive road win in Palo Alto, a 53-30 triumph over the previously unbeaten Stanford Cardinal on Saturday night. Not only are the Ducks in line for a possible jump to No. 4 in the BCS standings, they are also on track for a projected Rose Bowl showdown with the Wisconsin Badgers on January 2 in Pasadena, according to the latest 2011-2012 bowl projections at SB Nation.

Oregon still has two games remaining, home contest against the USC Trojans and Oregon St. Beavers, but only needs to win one of the two to secure a spot in the inaugural Pac-12 Football Championship Game on Friday, December 2. The Pac-12 North winner will host the title game by virtue of having a better record than their south component, either the UCLA Bruins, Arizona St. Sun Devils, or Utah Utes. Oregon will be heavy favorites over any of those teams.

In the Big Ten, the Michigan St. Spartans have a one-game lead in the Legends Division with two to play. In the Leaders Division, the Penn St. Nittany Lions have a one-game lead but it is looking like the winner of the November 26 game in Madison between Penn St. and Wisconsin will decide the division. The first-ever Big Ten Football Championship Game will be played on Saturday, December 3 at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.

Bowl Projections, Week 12: UCLA Bruins On Course For Alamo Bowl, Rematch With Texas Longhorns

The UCLA Bruins are in the fork in the road this college football season, straddling the line between controlling their own destiny in the Pac-12 South Division and total irrelevance should they happen to lose their final two games. In the latest 2011-2012 bowl projections at SB Nation, the Bruins are projected to play in the Alamo Bowl on December 29, in a rematch with the Texas Longhorns.

The Bruins lost to Texas 49-20 at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena on September 17. The Alamo Bowl is played in San Antonio, and has the second selection of Pac-12 teams after the Rose Bowl. Though both the Oregon Ducks (Rose Bowl vs. Wisconsin) and the Stanford Cardinal (Sugar Bowl vs. Alabama) are projected to go to BCS bowls, which trump the selection of other bowls.

UCLA needs one more win, either at home against the Colorado Buffaloes next week or at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum in two weeks against the USC Trojans, to become bowl eligible for the second time in four seasons under head coach Rick Neuheisel. The Bruins' last bowl game was the EagleBank Bowl on December 29, 2009, a 30-21 victory over the Temple Owls.

Should UCLA win twice, they will be in the inaugural Pac-12 Football Championship Game, to be played on Friday, December 2 at the site of the Pac-12 North winner, which almost certainly will be Oregon. Of course anything can happen in one game, but the Ducks would be a heavy favorite over the Bruins if that matchup should occur.

2012 Rose Bowl Projections: Michigan State Remains In Driver's Seat In Big Ten Legends Division

The Michigan St. Spartans beat the Iowa Hawkeyes 37-21 on the road on Saturday, maintaining its one-game lead in the Big Ten Legends Division. The Spartans remain in the driver's seat for a spot in the inaugural Big Ten Championship Game, and possibly the Rose Bowl in Pasadena. Here are the standings in the Big Ten Legends Division:

Big Ten Legends Division Standings
Team Conf Overall Remaining Games
Michigan St. 5-1 8-2 Indiana, at Northwestern
Michigan 4-2 8-2 Nebraska, Ohio St.
Nebraska 4-2 8-2 at Michigan, Iowa
Iowa 3-3 6-4 at Purdue, at Nebraska
Northwestern 2-4 5-5 Minnesota, Michigan St.
Minnesota 1-5 2-8 at Northwestern, Illinois

Michigan State has by far the easier schedule of the trio at the top, facing two teams with a combined 2-10 record in Big Ten play. The game of the week next week for the Big Ten has to be Nebraska at Michigan, with the winner hoping for a loss in the final two weeks by the Spartans.

The first-ever Big Ten Football Championship Game is scheduled for Saturday, December 3, at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, pitting the winners of both the Legends Division and the Leaders Division, which looks like it might come down to Penn State at Wisconsin in two weeks.

Pac-12 South Division Scenarios: UCLA Bruins Still In Control Of Their Own Destiny

The UCLA Bruins may have lost 31-6 to the Utah Utes in a dismal afternoon and evening in Salt Lake City, but somehow in the topsy-turvy world of the Pac-12 South Division the Bruins still remain in control of their own destiny in the race toward the inaugural Pac-12 Football Championship Game.

The Arizona St. Sun Devils went to Pullman and lost 37-27 to the Washington St. Cougars, leaving the door open for UCLA. Keeping in mind that the USC Trojans are ineligible for postseason play, there are three teams still in contention to win the Pac-12 South. Here are the standings:

Pac-12 South Division Standings
Team Conference Overall vs Div Remaining Games
USC* 5-2 8-2 3-1 at Oregon, UCLA
UCLA 4-3 5-5 1-2 Colorado, at USC
Arizona St. 4-3 6-4 3-1 Arizona, Cal
Utah 3-4 6-4 1-2 at WSU, Colorado
Colorado 1-6 2-9 1-2 at UCLA, at Utah
Arizona 1-7 2-8 1-2 at ASU, Louisiana-Lafayette
*USC is ineligible for postseason play

There can be three possible winners of the Pac-12 South. Here are the scenarios:

UCLA

Will win the division with two wins regardless of what the other teams do. If UCLA loses a game, they will need both ASU and Utah to lose. The Bruins hold the two-way tiebreaker over ASU, but not against Utah.

Arizona State

Need to win twice and have UCLA lose once. If the Sun Devils lose once, they can still win the division if UCLA loses once and the Utes win twice. In that scenario, there will be a three-way tie at 5-4, and the Pac-12 tiebreaking procedure is as follows:

  1. Head-to-head: All three teams would be 1-1 against the other two, which brings us to the second tiebreaker...
  2. Record in games played within the division: if ASU's one loss is to Colorado, their division record of 4-1 would be superior to both Utah (3-2) and UCLA (2-3). If ASU's loss is to Colorado, their 3-2 divisional record would be the same as Utah but UCLA would be eliminated and the tiebreaker would become a two-team tiebreaker. ASU beat Utah 35-14 on October 8, so again the division title would belong to ASU.

Utah

Needs to win twice, have ASU lose twice, and UCLA lose once. Utah would win any tiebreaker with UCLA by virtue of Saturday's win.

The winner of the Pac-12 South will play at the winner of the Pac-12 North, almost certainly Oregon, on Friday, December 2.

2011 College Football Bowl Projections: Oregon Beats Stanford, In Driver's Seat For Pac-12 Title Game, Rose Bowl Berth

The college football game of the year in the Pac-12 Conference was a high-scoring affair, and in the end the Oregon Ducks proved too much for the Stanford Cardinal to handle, defeating Stanford 53-30 Saturday night in Palo Alto. The first loss of the season for Stanford knocked them out of the running for the BCS Championship Game, but put the Ducks in the driver's seat for both the Pac-12 title game and the Rose Bowl in Pasadena.

Oregon is now 7-0 in conference, with home games remaining against the USC Trojans and Oregon St. Beavers. Even if they lose one of those games, they hold the tiebreaker over Stanford for the Pac-12 North Division, which means the Ducks are essentially locks to host the Pac-12 Championship Game on Friday, December 2.

The Ducks have an outside shot at the BCS title game, but they might utter chaos to help them out. Oregon was ranked seventh in the BCS standings last week, and will move up to at least fifth this week, possibly even fourth if they can pass the Oklahoma Sooners. But Oregon would appear to need losses by the Oklahoma St. Cowboys and Alabama Crimson Tide, and/or a loss by Oklahoma or two losses by the LSU Tigers.

The bottom line is that a lot of things need to happen to elevate the Ducks into the top two. So it's looking like Oregon is the favorite to represent the Pac-12 in the 2012 Rose Bowl.

2012 Rose Bowl Projections: Penn State Loss Opens Door For Wisconsin For Big Ten Title Game, Rose Bowl

In their first college football game without head coach Joe Paterno in 46 seasons, the No. 12 Penn St. Nittany Lions lost at home on Saturday to the No. 19 Nebraska Cornhuskers 17-14. The loss opened up the Big Ten Leaders Division, making it possible for the No. 16 Wisconsin Badgers to find their way into the inaugural Big Ten Championship Game and possibly the Rose Bowl.

It was the first conference loss of the season for Penn St., who still lead the Leaders Division:

Big Ten Leaders Division Standings
Team Conf Overall Remaining Games
Penn St. 5-1 8-2 at Ohio St., at Wis
Wisconsin 3-2 7-2 at Minn., at Ill., Penn St.
Purdue 3-3 5-5 Iowa, at Indiana
Ohio St. 3-3 6-4 Penn St., at Mich.
Illinois 2-3 6-3 Mich., Wisc., at Minn.
Indiana 0-6 1-9 at Mich St., Purdue
through early Saturday games

The 26-23 overtime loss by the Ohio St. Buckeyes on the road to the Purdue Boilermakers means that both Penn St. and Wisconsin hold their fate in their own hands. Win out, and they are win the Leaders Division. These two teams face off on Saturday, November 26 in Madison, Wisconsin.

The first-ever Big Ten Football Championship Game is scheduled for Saturday, December 3, at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.

2011 Bowl Predictions: Stanford, Oregon Showdown Has Rose Bowl Implications, Maybe More

Both the Stanford Cardinal and Oregon Ducks won on Saturday, and both are unbeaten in the Pac-12 Conference. They do battle next Saturday in Palo Alto in a game that has both Rose Bowl and BCS standings implications. Here is a look at some scenarios for the 2012 Rose Bowl:

Pac-12

Stanford (9-0, 7-0) and Oregon (8-1, 6-0) will battle for the Pac-12 North next week. Stanford however has higher aspirations and will likely move up to third in the BCS standings later Sunday. If the Cardinal end up in the top two in the BCS standings, they would head to New Orleans for the BCS Championship Game. If that happens, the Rose Bowl would get to choose a replacement for Stanford. If Oregon wins the remainder of their games outside of the Stanford game, the Ducks would make a fine replacement in the Rose Bowl.

The UCLA Bruins (5-4, 4-2) moved into a tie with the Arizona St. Sun Devils (6-3, 4-2) with a home win over ASU on Saturday, giving UCLA the tiebreaker in the Pac-12 South. UCLA might need ASU to lose again, as the Bruins will be underdogs against the USC Trojans on November 26. But the Bruins are definitely in play for the Pac-12 South Division title.

The inaugural Pac-12 Championship Game will be played on Friday, December 3.

Important game this week: Oregon at Stanford, 5 p.m. PDT (ABC). This is not only the game of the week for the conference, but for all of college football.

Big Ten

The Penn St. Nittany Lions (8-1, 5-0) had a bye, which is just as good since they had other things to deal with this week. They lead the Big Ten Leaders Division, but still have games against the Nebraska Cornhuskers (7-2, 3-2) and Wisconsin Badgers (7-2, 3-2). That November 26 game in Madison between Penn State and Wisconsin looks like it might decide the Leaders Division.

The Michigan St. Spartans (7-2, 4-1) are alone in first place in the Big Ten Legends Division, as both the Cornhuskers and Michigan Wolverines (7-2, 3-2) lost on Saturday. The Spartans have the easiest remaining schedule of the three, but two of their opponents - the Iowa Hawkeyes and Northwestern Wildcats - beat Michigan and Nebraska, respectively on Saturday.

The first ever Big Ten Football Championship Game is scheduled for Saturday, December 3, at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.

Important game this week: Nebraska at Penn State

The 2012 Rose Bowl Game will be played on Monday, January 2, 2012 in Pasadena. Kickoff is scheduled for 2:10 p.m. PDT. The game will be televised by ESPN, with Brent Musberger, Kirk Hirbstreit, and Lisa Salters on the call. Stay tuned for more updates as the game approaches.

2011 Bowl Projections: Stanford In Line For Rose Bowl, But Has BCS Championship Game In Mind

Andrew Luck and the Stanford Cardinal won their 16th consecutive game on Saturday night, a 56-48 triple overtime thriller over the USC Trojans in Los Angeles. With the win, Stanford jumped two spots to number four in the latest BCS rankings, and remain in line for a berth in the 2012 Rose Bowl. Though the Cardinal have larger goals in mind, like the BCS Championship Game. Here is a look at some scenarios for the Rose Bowl:

Pac-12

Stanford (8-0, 6-0) has a showdown with the Oregon Ducks (7-1, 5-0), who are ranked No. 8 in the BCS standings, on November 12 in Palo Alto. That game will all but certainly decide the Pac-12 North Division, with the winner in line to host the first-ever Pac-12 Championship Game on Friday, December 2.

The Arizona St. Sun Devils (6-2, 4-1) have the inside track in the Pac-12 South Division, especially with the USC Trojans (6-2, 3-2) ineligible for postseason play. Surprisingly, the UCLA Bruins (4-4, 3-2) still have a shot, especially if they are able to beat the Sun Devils at home in Pasadena this coming Saturday. A UCLA win over ASU would give them the tiebreaker, and the Bruins follow with game against conference newcomers the Utah Utes and Colorado Buffaloes, who have combined for one Pac-12 win so far this season.

The wrinkle here is that if Stanford continues to win out, they have a decent shot at finishing in the top two in the BCS standings, which would send them to New Orleans for the BCS Championship Game. If that happens, the Rose Bowl would get to choose a replacement for Stanford. Assuming Oregon wins the remainder of their games outside of the Stanford game, the Ducks would make a fine replacement in the Rose Bowl.

Important game this week: Arizona St. at UCLA, 4:30 p.m. PDT Saturday, November 5 (Versus)

Big Ten

The No. 16 Penn St. Nittany Lions (8-1, 5-0) are in the driver's seat in the Big Ten Leaders Division, but they have a very tough end to their schedule. Penn St. ends with a home game against the No. 10 Nebraska Cornhuskers (7-1, 3-1) and road contests with the Ohio State Buckeyes (5-3, 2-2) and No. 20 Wisconsin Badgers (6-2, 2-2). The Badgers lost to the Buckeyes on Saturday, but if they win out there is a good chance that home game on November 26 against Penn St. will decide the Leaders Division.

The Big Ten Legends Division is more tightly bunched, with the three ranked teams all at 3-1 in conference play. Nebraska beat the No. 17 Michigan St. Spartans (6-2, 3-1), and the Spartans beat the No. 15 Michigan Wolverines (7-1, 3-1). Michigan hosts Nebraska on November 19, which is looking like a key game in determining the division champion. But don't count out Michigan St., who ends their schedule with four games against teams with a combined 4-14 conference record.

The inaugural Big Ten Football Championship Game is scheduled for Saturday, December 3, at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.

Important game this week: Michigan at Iowa (5-3, 2-2), 9 a.m. PDT, Saturday, November 5 (ESPN); in an unexciting week for the Big Ten, this is the only game featuring two teams with winning records.
