NBA Lockout Game Featuring Kobe Bryant and Blake Griffin In Puerto Rico Postponed

NBA fans just cannot win anymore. First came the news that two more weeks of the regular season had been cancelled and now comes news that a game scheduled for Sunday in Puerto Rico has been cancelled. Superstars such as Kobe Bryant, Dwayne Wade, Kevin Durant, Dwight Howard, Blake Griffin and others were all expected to play.

The news came courtesy of a tweet from Ira Winderman, a Miami Heat writer for the Sun-Sentinal:

Source confirms to Sun Sentinel that Puerto Rico exhibition Sunday "is not happening." Was to feature Dwyane Wade, Chris Bosh.

Tim Reynolds also tweeted this update:

Online tickets for Sunday in Puerto Rico still on sale. Local reports in PR say players pulled out. Not true -- full deal didn't get done.

There were some reports of the game simply being postponed instead of completely cancelled -- hey, it's not like these NBA players have much going on these days -- and that will definitely be something to keep an eye on.

Kobe Bryant And Other NBA Stars To Play In San Juan On Sunday

NBA players are staging an international basketball tour in light of the ongoing NBA lockout. While top players such as LeBron James, Carmelo Anthony and Chris Paul have decided not to play, according to a recent ESPN report, Kobe Bryant and several other stars will participate.

Yahoo! Sports' Adrian Wojnarowski reports that coordinators will soon announce Sunday's game in San Juan, which will feature Kobe Bryant and other stars. Wojnarowski reports the other confirmed players for the game: Dwayne Wade, Amare Stoudemire, Blake Griffin, Carlos Boozer, Kevin Durant, Dwight Howard, Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce, Rajon Rondo and Tyson Chandler.

The cast is all set for Sunday, but future venues may not be. None of the other games on the global tour, which was originally slated to span six games on four continents, have been confirmed just yet. Other cities and venues are waiting to see how the event in San Juan plays through before deciding whether or not to participate.

Either way, the game should provide good entertainment in today's basketball-deprived world. A few NBA stars have been playing during the lockout- such as Derron Williams, who went to Turkey- but top NBA players have not coalesced like this since the 2011 NBA All-Star Game. Fans and players alike will have an event worth anticipating on Sunday.
