John Lindsey, who has hit 219 home runs and 370 doubles in 1,570 games in 16 minor league seasons, will finally realize his dream when he joins the Dodgers on Monday in San Diego.

The 33-year old Lindsey will be promoted from Triple A Albuquerque, along with fellow Isotopes John Ely, Chin-Lung Hu, Jon Link, and Russ Mitchell. Both Lindsey and Mitchell will need to be added to the Dodgers’ 40-man roster, which currently has 39 players. A corresponding roster move will need to made, and will likely be moving Russell Martin from the 15-day to the 60-day disabled list. Martin has been out since August 2 with a torn hip labrum.

For today’s game, manager Joe Torre said Hong-Chih Kuo is unavailable after pitching the last two nights. Kenley Jansen will be the closer today should the opportunity present itself to the Dodgers. Torre also said that in the right situation, likely meaning with left-handed batters due up, he wouldn’t be afraid to use George Sherrill as his closer.
