Anaheim Ducks Reassign Green, Macenauer To Syracuse, Now Have 23 Healthy Players On Roster

The Anaheim Ducks have reassigned left wing Josh Green and center Maxime Macenauer to the Syracuse Crunch of the AHL, the club announced today. This leaves the Ducks with 23 healthy players on a 26-man roster:

GoaltendersJonas Hiller, Curtis McElhinney

CentersRyan Getzlaf, Saku Koivu, Ryan Carter, Todd Marchant, Kyle Chipchura

Right WingersTeemu Selanne, Corey Perry, George Parros, Dan Sexton, Troy Bodie

Light WingersBobby Ryan, Jason Blake, Aaron Voros, Matt Beleskey

DefensemenLuca Sbisa, Lubomir Visnovsky, Sheldon Brookbank, Paul Mara, Andy Sutton, Brendan Mikkelson, Cam Fowler

Toni Lydman, Joffrey Lupul, and Jason Jaffray are also on the roster, but injured. Arthur from Anaheim Calling speculates that the roster might be just about finalized, save one roster move:

Lydman has skated recently, but a date for his return still has not been set.  The Ducks are carrying a two-way contract defenseman in Brendan Mikkelson and an ELC defenseman in Cam Fowler.  The former may be sent down to accommodate Lydman, while the latter may be sent back to his junior team in Windsor, though after nine games, a year of Fowler's ELC would toll.

The Ducks open their regular season on Friday in Detroit against the Red Wings.

Anaheim Ducks Place Defensemen Festerling, Syvret On Waivers

This morning, the Anaheim Ducks placed defensmen Brett Festerling and Danny Syvret on waivers, the club announced today. They have until 9 a.m. PDT Friday morning until waivers expire. If they clear waivers, they remain with the organization and can be sent down to the Syracuse Crunch of the AHL.

Syvret signed a one-year, two-way deal earlier in the summer that will pay him $600,000 with the Ducks or $105,000 in the AHL. He has played in 49 games in four NHL seasons, with the Edmonton Oilers and Philadelphia Flyers.

Festerling has played in 82 games in the last two seasons with the Ducks.

Yesterday was the club fishing trip, as noted on Syvret's Twitter account:

Deep sea fishing today. Wonder which teammate will reel in the biggest catch?

Little did Syvret know that he might have been Fredo Corleone. The biggest catch, however, just might be Cam Fowler. Eric Stephens of the Orange County Register speculates that placing Festerling and Syvret on waivers could pave the way for the 18-year old top draft pick to make the Ducks.

Anaheim Ducks Sign Left Winger Beleskey To Two-Year Extension

The Anaheim Ducks today have announced they have come to terms with left winger Matt Beleskey on a two-year contract extension, through 2013. The contract is worth $1.475 million total per Curtis Zupke of the Orange County Register:

Ducks sign Matt Beleskey to two-year extension worth $625,000 in 2011-12 and $850,000 in 2012-13.

Per the Ducks:

Among NHL rookies, Beleskey ranked tied for 10th in goals, tied for third in game-winning goals (3), seventh in hits (94) and 10th in shots (123). He also finished sixth among team leaders in goal scoring and tied for fourth in game-winners.

Beleskey was drafted in the fourth round in 2006 by the Ducks, and he scored 11 goals in 60 games last year, his first full season with the club.

Ducks Sign Defenseman Danny Syvret To One-Year Deal

The Anaheim Ducks have signed defenseman Danny Syvret to a one-year deal, per Frank Seravalli of the Philadelphia Daily News:

Former Flyers defenseman Danny Syvret signed a 1-year, two-way contract yesterday to join the Anaheim Ducks.

Syvret, an unrestricted free agent, will earn $600,000 at the NHL level and $105,000 in the AHL. He also fielded offers from Montreal, Pittsburgh, Nashville and San Jose.

Arthur From Anaheim Calling analyzed the deal:

After an impressive junior career culminating in an 81st overall selection in the 2005 Draft by the Edmonton Oilers, Syvret has had trouble cracking an NHL lineup. He played 21 of his 49 total NHL games (logged over three seasons) last year with the Flyers. Known primarily for his offense, Syvret’s 0.95 Pts/60 rating was second only to Pronger in his quarter-season sample. However, defensively, Syvret had the lowest Quality of Competition rating amongst Philadelphia blueliners and the fourth worst GAON/60, contributing to the third worst Corsi Relative to Quality of Competition rating on the team (behind Ryan Parent and Ole-Kristian Tollefsen).

With 272 AHL games, Syvret would be a strong pickup for Anaheim’s Syrcause squad as the team works to build an American League roster after spending last season without an affiliate. However, if the Ducks’ NHL club continues to maintain the current holes they have on defense, Syvret could contend for a roster spot alongside fellow struggling 2005 draft pick Brendan Mikkelson.

Ducks Sign Defenseman Brendan Mikkelson To One-Year Deal

Defenseman Brendan Mikkelson accepted the qualifying offer from the Anaheim Ducks and signed a one-year deal, the team announced today.

Eric Stephens of the Orange County Register has the details of the two-way contract:

Mikkelson, 23, will make $687,500, or 10 percent above the $625,000 NHL salary he was signed for last season. It is a two-way contract so his American Hockey League salary will be pro-rated to $62,500 but he will not have to pass through waivers if he were sent down.

Arthur from Anaheim Calling analyzed Mikkelson as follows:

Mikkelson's toolkit has always been that of a Top 4 defenseman, and while his issues were attributed to adjusting to Carlyle's system in 08-09, he was clearly having consistency issues last year.  I've often called it a case of Dr. Mikkel and Mr. Hyde, which is truly frustrating because Dr. Mikkel is a damn good player, but it got to the point where the good doctor couldn't even show up for two consecutive shifts.  He's 23, so if he blossoms (but doesn't blossom too much) in 10-11, the Ducks can get him on an affordable contract for the rest of his RFA.  If he takes any longer, I'd suspect a trade, with him (annoyingly) becoming a Top 4 elsewhere.

Mikkelson was drafted by the Ducks in the second round in 2005, and has appeared in 62 NHL games over the past two seasons.
